Can't disable passcode lock on iPad

For some reason, I cannot see the option to disable the Passcode Lock on the iPad (that should have been there under General > Passcode Lock). I have read about Exchange Server accounts, etc and I don't have any setup on my iPad. I also tried doing a complete restart and that did not help. Finally I tried General > Reset > Reset All Settings, which reset all of my customizations on the iPad, but didn't remove the passcode.

What do I need to do ???

I just did a complete "restore to factory condition", but then selected "restore from backup" because I wanted my customizations to come back. That got the passcode back again!

How can I do a restore, but retain the internal data within each of the apps (like locally stored hi-scores etc). All of that data is now present in my last backup.

Finally, got it to work! As usual, it had to do with some security settings. It was my office VPN connection that was setup on the iPad. Removing that configuration, got the "turn passcode off" option back again.

I think it's pretty good that this feature is present in the OS. But 2 suggestions for Apple:
1. The "turn passcode off" option should have been present on the appropriate screen - could be grayed out. That for one would prevent users from hunting about to see if that option is present on some other screen.
2. If possible, indicate to the user which mail/vpn configuration on the device is causing the passcode to be mandatory. That would have solved all the confusion in the first place.

Not sure about locally stored hi score stuff. But the back up should have at least restore it to the way it was before you wiped it (apps, music, contacts, etc).

Anything that is stored or changed within an app, I assume would be lost (personal settings, email accounts, etc). I've deleted apps manually and reinstalled them and had to reconfigure them again.

Good job getting the passcode thing taken care of! That would have been annoying....

I do not want to disappoint you but to restore the passcode on/off and the Erase Data selection you only needed to remove any Exchange email account settings you did, I deleted mine and those options came back, no need for a restore. Restore will work because it starts with no Exchange email accounts but as soon as you will add one, you will get this issue again, so be careful!
