squirrelmail login not loading

I am configuring a new install of 10.4.3 and finall have gotten around to configuring squirrelmail. I am familiar with the config as I used it on my old ANS running Yellowdog Linux (which the XServe is relacing.

It appears it is not as easy as clicking the webmail checkbox in server admin. I have used conf.pl to configure squirrelmail.

The problem: when I try to bring webmail up a browser using http://myserver.org/WebMail (or webmail, for that matter), I get a directory listing of /usr/share/squirrelmail rather than the login. The folder listing option is unchecked.

I tried adding the squirrelmail include to /etc/httpd/httpd.conf as it doesn't seem to be there, but no joy. I also tried appending /index.php to the redirect lines in /etc/httpd/httpd_squirrelmail.conf, but then get into a redirect loop and the login page can't be displayed.

What bothers me the most is that a folder listing is occurring when I don't really want it to.

I know I'm missing something stupid. Any clues? Any other info needed happily supplied.

After more investigation, it appears that the only problem is that index.php in /usr/share/squirrelmail is not loading after being redirected by apache. I can load the page manually and login to webmail no problem.

Not knowing php well -- is there something that needs to be done to "bless" the index.php file so it will load after redirection?

Thanks.
