Downloading pictures from new iPhoto Library into iPad

I have sort of the opposite issue that dbherman had.

Recently, my laptop has almost become completely out of hard drive space. Mainly because I have so many photos. I uploaded all of my photos to my iPad (one of the main reasons I got my iPad). And then erased my iPhoto Library.

Now, of course, when I synch my computer and iPad up, it creates a problem. If I upload my new iPhoto library to my iPad, it will erase all the pictures there and only put on the few new ones I have.

Is there a way to continue to upload pictures to my iPad without erasing the entire library?

The only way I can think of is to get an app like Sort Shots that allows loading photo's into their app and not the standard ipad iphoto app.

That way the itunes sync'ed photo's will be retained and any new photo's go into Sort Shots app and not the iphoto app on the ipad.

All photos will be on the ipad, but to view them all, you'll need to use 2 viewers. Sort Shots & iPhoto. Over time, you could migrate all the iPhoto pictures to Sort Shots on the ipad itself and stop using the itunes photo sync. Because Sort Shots allows drag & drop within itunes as files, into the app.

Wow. So now the only copy of your photos is on a small device that you carry around, with a high potential of dropping, loss, or theft? Living dangerously!

I'd suggest buying an external hard drive to store photos, even if you don't keep them in your regular iPhoto Library. Or you could move the entire Library to an external hard drive.

You should be able to use PhoneView to pull the photos back off the iPad, once you have extra storage to put them on.
