Snow Leopard on Mac Mini Server

Seeing as how the DVD player was left out in favor of the 2nd 500 gig harddisk I don't understand your question. I did buy and connect a Samsung USB DVDRW which worked perfectly right out of the box. The so called Installation Disk that came with the USB DVD drive is still in it's sealed sleeve and was not needed,

I have an external Lacie Bluray burner that also works as a DVD drive. I also use Drive Sharing from my Macbook. Both methods result in an error (-70012) when trying to access them in Apple DVD Player. I can however, use "Ultimate DVD Player" to access DVD's via .vob files so it is working, but I did want to see if it was as simple as copying over a .kext file from the server OS in order to have it working properly.

Hey guys. I am sorry that I have not been around but honestly i thought that this topic was resolved a while ago. For anyone who is still trying to put OSX Client on the Mac Mini Server I would recommend getting your hands on a Mac Mini Restore DVD. When I was able to finally get my hands on this DVD it installed on the Mac Mini Server without any problems what so ever. Even my Guide has some hiccups and causes some .kext problems.

So the perfect way to do this is with a Mac Mini Restore DVD.

We have used your earlier post, especially to get the kext/s working. And just to clarify, that has to be a 2010 Mac Mini restore DVD. I know personally that the 2009 one will not work because I own a 2009 Mini Client and have that DVD, thus the workaround. The 2010 Server will not boot the 2009 disk.

I must say that I am EXTREMELY angry at the apple support for deleting my last post. My last post DID NOT Violate any use agreement, and if APPLE actually helped the people who bought these units install it on them then there would not even be a forum post for this. But due to the fact that Apple has decided to pass these people over is wrong and selfish. So I will modify what I wrote, and still post it again because it does not violate any agreement.

AppleDuhds to clarify it must be a Mac Mini 2010 restore disk. This disk contains everything needed to install OS X Client on the Mac Mini server without any Kext manipulation. Just pop it in and install. This is really the best way to install OSX Client on the Mac Mini Server.

Where do you get a Restore disk?

Therein lies the rub. 🙂

I got one from a friend who just bought a macmini. You might do a little googling to see if any of your friends have one.

Restore disks are specific to the machine model with which they shipped. If you put an iMac Restore Disk in any other Mac you will get a message that you cannot use this disk with this Mac.

The thing to remember is that we are all here as guests. In reviewing the history of this thread, a number of times someone has posted hints about using pirated Apple Software. Each time these have been removed by the Hosts because this is a violation of the Terms of Use. I think your post got removed by an editing out of a post by someone else in response to yours.

It happens occasionally, to everyone, even long time Apple Discussions members. The Hosts are just doing their job as best as they can. Do not always take what occurs here as personal to you, especially if your comment was removed, but you did not receive a warning email. Just grow a bit thicker skin.

No David you are right, honestly I was just kinda annoyed. I am just trying to help people resolve this issue for people who have not figure it out yet. So i was just kinda annoyed to see a post of mine deleted when the post did not contain anything was against terms of service (I got a deleted post email). But i understand what you are saying David, and i think i was just annoyed at it all.

So without adding anything to something that in reality is not big deal, the way i got the restore disk is i was able to borrow it from a friend and test this all out. Unfortunately for some people this might not be possible. For anyone who is unable to get their hands on the restore disk i would provide you with 2 options.

1) The first is to follow the guide i posted earlier in this post. But when you do this there are some compatibility issues that even after messing with the Kexts does not fix. I feel that this would only be the best as a temporary option.
2) The second is to wait for the next Snow Leopard Disk Release. The next release disk will contain the compatibility for the Mac Mini servers and will have no problem installing on these machines.

Hope this helps anyone who is still looking to install OS X Client on the Mac Mini server.
