Carrying a MacBook Pro while in sleep mode

Many people do this just for the fact of if they know they're getting it out again in 1/2 hour, why shut it down. I do it myself.

It's just as safe as turning it off all together for parts like the hard drive and such, when the mac goes to sleep it virtually cuts everything, I believe only solid/onboard memory is accessed to keep things regulated.

Should be fine. I used to do that all the time with my old iBook G4. HDD never once crashed on me. Sleep mode and turned off are the only two safe states to be moving a laptop period. I would never rely on the sudden movement detector unit.

The drive heads are parked before the machine goes to sleep, so no, it doesn't detect motion or park the heads if the machine is moved during sleep. It doesn't need to.

I normally put mine to sleep when carrying it around because it's been 100% safe. The only time I turn mine off is if I'm traveling for extended periods and know there isn't a need to turn it on.

As has been said Apple (and most notebook manufacturers) know the drive heads need to be parked in sleep mode.

One thing: Make sure you wait for the little status light on the front to begin pulsing - indicating the machine is actually asleep and not writing RAM to your HD - before you make any significant movements of the MBP.
