very slow download from iTunes store today 6/18/2010
It seems that downloads from the store are extremely slow this afternoon. a movie that normally downloads in 10 to 15 minutes, is now likely to take 4 to 6 hours! Is there a known issue at the store end. (using speedtest.net I've verified my download performance as 25Mbps) Is anybody else seeing this kind of poor download speeds
mac Mini 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB,
Mac OS X (10.6.2)
Yes, i see it too. The app store on my iPhone and ipad, are incredibly slow. Browsing itunes on the computer is also fairly slow. Movie trailers run at about 1.5mbps.
Speed test confirms my speed is 100% of my promised speed. Must be an issue tonight, but cant complain. This is the first issue with apple for me!
Seems to be much better now (7:37 EDT) Getting about 1.2MB/sec which is a 40% of what my internet connection is capable of, but it's certainly good enough to start watching while downloading.
Yet again, the download performance from iTunes is hovering around 150 - 190KB / second, which is unacceptable for HD movie downloads. I'm wondering if something got messed up with the recent 9.2 upgrade. Seems to be very coincidental.
I'm starting to think that iTunes is folding. I've seen poor performance in the past, but it's now been 3 days that download performance has been sketchy to non-existent. There was a brief moment when the performance was close to par, but that didn't last long.
Can somebody else confirm that performance is slow.
I have been experiencing EXTREMELY slow downloads of songs from iTunes for the past week or so. I checked everything on my computer: no viruses, defragged the disk, upgraded virus detection, no extraneous software running in the background. No issues there. But it takes an hour or more to download an album from the iTunes Store when it used to take no more than 5 minutes. Also, viewing items on the Store is slow. What can I do? I will NOT buy anymore music until this issue if fixed!
Quite right, Apple doesn't respond here, nor should there be any such expectation.
On a more positive note I did contact Tech Support, and they gave me 1) the usual song and dance about the unpredictability of the internet, but 2) a two song credit to my account for my troubles. Not exactly what I was hoping for, but a step in the right direction.
I would suggest that if you're experiencing very slow downloads, as seems verified here, then open a support ticket.
I'm guessing once the millions upon millions of iPhone / iPod owners finish downloading the iOS 4 update, and the surge of iPhone 4 users also finish setting up their accounts, then the apple grove may get back to normal.
It's now coming close to 10 days since I first noticed download performance being a disaster.
Because I'm a sucker for punishment, I decided to purchase another movie (2.03 GB) and ITunes is claiming that it will be here in 25 hours! (should be about 11 minutes)
I'm now guessing that we can look forward to disastrous D/L performance for the rest of the summer as the world gets their new phones, and 200K apps are updated to the OS4 feature set.
The frustrating thing at this point is that having now purchased about 1 TB of content from iTunes, they have me. If I could take my digital media with me, and shop somewhere else I would. Sadly I suspect that's part of their master plan. Very disappointing.
I have been using shopping on the iTunes store for years, nearly from its first days of operation, and in the last few months I have seen the speeds drop for my TV and movie downloads to the point where its no longer making sense to spend my time and money waiting for the content. I am running on a confirmed 50/10+ secure cable connection. All of my additional uploads and downloads are extremely reliable and fast. As of late, downloading a movie from iTunes went from something in the three to five minute range to four or five hours.
Apple this is something that needs immediate attention. Please fix this.
