iMovie not opening

When I try to open and load iMovie it looks like it is starting to and then it ends up thinking for a while and the rainbow wheel icon is up. But it never fully loads and it keeps freezing. Any suggestions?

Welcome to Apple Discussions,

Remove the following to the trash and restart the computer:
Home > Library > Caches
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.imovie

If that does not resolve the issue:
_Go to Home > Movies
_Rename 'iMovie Projects" and "iMovie Events" to "iMovie Projects1" and "iMovie Events1"

If iMovie launches with these folders renamed that means you either have a corrupted event file or a corrupted project file.

Go back and get rid of the freshly created iMovie Projects and iMovie Events folders and rename iMovie Projects1 back to iMovie Projects.

Open iMovie. If it works then you have a bad Event. If it doesn't work then you have a bad project. Using a process of elimination you can take the projects out and test iMovie each time to see which one causes iMovie to become unresponsive. Use the same process to isolate a bad event.

Hope that helps.
