Why no colon symbol for email addresses?

My ISP recently switched its email to gmail, and in order to get my primary account to work properly, I had to append "recent:" to the beginning of my email address. Unfortunately, the iPod Touch does not seem to offer a colon symbol in the Address field when setting up email accounts (even though it is available in the Name field), so I am unable to check that account from the iPod. Apple needs to include the colon symbol for us gmail users! Or does someone have a workaround other than going into Safari and browsing email through my ISP's web portal?
