Snow Leopard 10.6.4 graphic problem

Since I updated my os to 10.6.4 I am having problem rendering graphics, there are even lags on quicktime while playing movies. Do others having the same problem? Is there a bug in the update?

Let this be a lesson. Just because there is a NEW update does NOT mean you have to install it immediately. First and FOREMOST make sure you have a CLONE of your currently operating system.

2nd, consider doing what quite a few of us do, and WAIT for a week or so before installing the new updates. In addition, even if you DON'T wait, at least if you have a working CLONE, you can always go back to it, if the update screws up your system.

Face it, the days of "It JUST WORKS" for Apple hardware/software are OVER, and the sooner everyone realizes that the COMMODITY hardware Apple now uses is just as fallible as Dell/HP/etc.. hardware, the better off we will all will be.

The lack of QUALITY ASSURANCE is now evident, and the trend will continue until Apple takes its FORMERLY CORE AUDIENCE (the Macintosh COMPUTER OWNERS) as serious as it now takes its NEW VIRGIN "iDEVICE" owners. Whats sad, is quite a few of us(myself included) own BOTH/and or ALL of the above, and therefore are responsible for allowing Apple to treat us this way.....

Good Luck to us all..... "http://theoatmeal.com/comics/apple"

Cheers M8te!

Thanks for your advice. I actually never save important document on my mac. I have 3 external drive that I use for all important stuff. So, when It failed I just reinstalled my os. You are true about Apple idevices. I think that steve should stop with " the most..., the first bla bla bla". Apple hardware are now just Dell or HP and sometimes they are far better than idevices. I think that the time is over when we mac hardware owners used to boast on campus about our devices.
So, Apple should restart doing things seriously and as you said we are helping the company by buying their crap.

After the 10.6.4 update:

In Parallels Desktop 5 I've noticed the Virtual machine window animation is choppy and CPU is spiking around 100% (without the VM actually running). I disabled the animation for now. So its back to like 8% CPU.

Also the built in screen savers that use a folder of pictures report the screen saver cannot be used with "this version of Mac OS X. Please contact the vendor to get a new version of the screen saver."

It appears to be 'only' happening on Macs with an nvidia graphics card or chipset, and is an apparent problem with certain OpenGL routines (not all) and the NV50HAL Graphics Driver that ships with 10.6.4
It also render CUDA (3.0.14) unusable).
nvidia are aware of the problem, and there is a bug report with Apple.
What they are doing, and time frame is a question only they can answer...
