poor quality of cropped images
I have been asked to deliver Quicktime files to be used in a digital signage system.
Material was shot with a high end DV camera and edited in Final Cut. Scenes are external shots of the countryside shot in bright sunshine properly exposed. Exported from final Cut as a self-contained QT file which looks stunning and imported into Compressor to crop away the black non-picture area at the top, bottom and sides of the clips so they appear clean on top of a background graphic.
I crop in the geometry tab in the inspector and the clips are rendered out cropped.
The problem is the image quality is so poor they are unusable; vertical banding and patchy blocking with a dreadful softness. I have tried many settings to produce a DV file of similar quality of the original.
Any suggestions on how to cure this or is this normal for image degradation in Compressor?
Is there another method I can use to crop the image but maintain quality?
