Bent Casing on Corner

i bought this 2 weeks ago with grad money, going into digital media studies and had the misfortune of dropping it once from about 2 2 half feet. just wondering how much this might cost to fix. the rest of the computer runs fine, but the bend is a real burden for me given the expense of the computer. any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

can you explain what you are talking about with using a plastic tool to pop it back into place.

thanks

What is bent is the corner of the display assembly, and Apple's in-store remedy will be to replace the entire display assembly for many hundreds of dollars. It may be that the machine could be repaired for substantially less if the store sends it to an Apple "repair depot". Ask about that at the store. If you do either of those things, your warranty (and AppleCare if you bought it) will be reinstated after the repair; if you don't, they will be gone for good.

You could buy a replacement display assembly or a replacement display back panel and install it yourself, but a) your warranty would then be void, and b) neither replacement procedure is easy. These are not snap-in parts.

Homeowner's or renter's insurance or accidental-damage coverage under your credit card agreement might cover part of the repair cost. Look into these possibilities.

There are a number of on line sites that sell replacement parts. This should give you an idea of cost

But before you buy take it in to an apple store, if you are near one, and tell them your story. Because you dropped it it's not covered under warranty but I have seen stories of folks that had their mac fixed anyway after they pleaded their case. The worst they can say is no.

Good luck

MacBook Pro cases uses very thin Aluminum that can be easily reshaped as long as you don't mind completely dis-assembling the entire unit. A simple method to reshaping a bent corner is with a plastic tool. If you dont have any handy a simple piece 3/4" ABS that has been routed on three sides to the corner size and you are good to go. Just a few light taps and that corner will pop right out.

If the corner is severely creased we carry case replacements at http://www.macsupergenius.com. But in most cases ( no pun intended ) the MacBook cases are so easy to repair, we almost never have to replace the case. If you need help with a DIY repair. Give us a call we can give you some helpful suggestions before you start.

I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link. <Edited by Host>

Well, from what I can see in the photos, it appears you have a slightl bend in the LCD bezel and LCD rear case. I was expecting a typical crushed corner rear bottom case. In this situation the plastic tools will not help. What needs to be done is the unit would have to be disassembled. Basically removal of the LCD screen from its casing and then just flexing of the bent areas over a piece of Teflon, soft plastic or rubber. Indirect heat can be applied to help. Do not heat the casing directly as it will discolor.

As for straightening....with something of this slight bend, the result should be very good.

Good luck.

Hi there NETEFX,
My name is Vijay and I am from Mumbai in India.
I have a MBP corei5 2010 model. It is 3 days old and due to some unforseen event has got a dent in its front right corner. Is there anyway to remove this dent.
Since it is right behind the HDD is there anyway to straighten it out?
Here is a picture of the dent I have uploaded to Flickr.

Any help from you is greatly appreciated.

Vijay Rajan
P.s. there are no offical Apple stores in Mumbai.
