AT&T Orders Only - Shipping Status

I ordered 3 i4s from AT&T online at 6:30am EDT on the 15th. Also added a line for my son at AT&T store at 12:30pm the same day. Both orders say "in progress" as of 10:09 am EDT on Fathers Day. Anyone seeing their AT&T orders shipped yet?

Mac OS X (10.6.4), iPhone 3G. iPad. iPhone 4.

Original OP here. FINALLY, after having supposedly "shipped" on the 17th and getting a tracking number from fedex, my 3 phones are showing up in the fedex tracking system as of 4:13 AM this morning - says it will be delivered by 3:00 pm on the 24th!

4th phone - an instore preorder for adding a line - placed also on the 15th - still showing "in progress" but cc still billed. Hope to hear something on that one today.

I posted a few posts back and the FedEx guy was right. I checked my FedEx tracking this morning as he suggested, and sure enough it is now in their system.

Ahh I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. Good thing too, I really need a good night sleep...

I pre ordered my iPhone (new AT&T customer, this is my first iPhone) on the 15th, but noticed something funky on my order status web page. I called AT&T because the date ordered they have the my order status webpage doesn't match up with the date I actually ordered the phone.

Sandra, the condescending customer service rep I spoke with said they received "a lot" of orders and they were working 24 hours a day to process them all, so when my order status page lists the 18th as the day I ordered the phone that actually means the day they processed the order.

I then asked her how this affected shipment of the phone, would I still be receiving it on the 24th? She said she had no idea because of how backed up they were. It could be as early as the 24th but she really couldn't say.

It's ridiculous to me that AT&T claims couldn't 'handle all the orders.' Isn't this one of the biggest carriers in America claiming to cover 97% of the countries with 10s of millions of customers? When I asked her if there were any concrete plans to deal with the time frame issues (ex: orders processed on the 18th get shipped on X date) she said they received a lot more orders than expected. "It's not like this is the first iPhone, it's the fourth!" is what I believe she said.

I'm not sure if anyone has received information similar to that, if you can even call it information...

Basically they have no idea when any orders are shipping, even if you "ordered" (they may not have processed it on) the 15th.

Status has been updated to be delivered by tomorrow. Funny thing is when I asked Fedex why you've kept the package for so long - he said they did not pick up the package from At&t until today. That does not make any sense if At&t gave tracking on Monday and At&t verified it is at Fedex's location.

I really hate being told different stories from so many people. I don't know which person I should trust. Get it right. ARGH.

I noticed when tracking that there is an important message at the top of the FedEx tracking page. When you click it, it reads:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tracking Update for Wednesday, June 23, 2010

Package deliveries are proceeding as normal, however tracking updates are temporarily being delayed. Please try back later.

Oh boy... now what am I going to do all day!?!

Here's a tip - when your anxiously awaited phone finally arrives, and you are dying to get it set up and use it, don't sync all of your normal items, especially your multi-GB song library. Just sync the basics, and use the phone for awhile, then sync the non-essentials later.

Question - when first connecting a new phone to iTunes, it asks if you would like to set it up as a new phone, or restore a backup from your old phone (for those that are upgrading phones). I opted to set it up as a new phone, I always like to start fresh from scratch, but I wondered how it works if I had restored my backup, which was created from a 3GS phone. Does it work to restore a backup from one model iPhone to another?

Your last backup from the 3Gs is just syncing all of your apps, music, photos, videos, and contacts into iTunes. If you say restore from backup, you can keep all of those to put on your new iPhone. If you set it up as a new iPhone, the only way to get any of those onto your new iPhone is to copy everything from your previous backup that you want to put on your new iPhone, and paste it elsewhere on your computer, then put it in the iTunes library for your new iPhone an sync it. (That could take hours depending on how much stuff you have).

I don't follow you, the comment about copying everything from the previous backup to the computer, and importing it into iTunes. All the info, both what is on my old phone and what I want on the new phone, is either already in my iTunes library, or it would be sync'd, like my contacts from the Address Book, photos from iPhoto, etc.

The full sync is already almost done, I have just over 20 Gig of apps, songs, and videos to sync. The songs take the longest, but it is taking less time than I thought it would.

I ordered mine on the AT&T website on the 15th at 6:30 Central time.

The AT&T website says it shipped the 18th. I got an email yesterday the 22nd saying it shipped. The fedex website says it shipped the 23rd but only says "info shipped to fedex". The fedex website says it's not accurate. I've been given so much info, I have NO idea when to expect it...

Apple messed up! Of two iPhones pre-ordered and prepaid on AT&T's site, one shipped to my house properly today and another got "accidentally" sent to a random AT&T store. Now the AT&T store won't let me pick it up until tomorrow. This is nuts!! How do they make these kinds of mistakes? If the store hadn't called me, it could be lost out in nowhere with the FedEx record saying they already shipped it. Now I'm forced to navigate the crowds before work tomorrow. I'm going to write a scathing letter...
