I have inherited this mac and i cannot use my iphone on it. It recognises it but i cannot change or listen to any of the music.
I know i have to authorize the computer but it will not let me.

i have tried all i can to listen / manage my music on this computer but find i still get this message

_"there was an error storing your authorization information on this computer_

_the required directory was not found or has a permission error._
Correct this permission problem and try again, or deauthorize this computer if the permissions cannot be changed"

please help, i have restored the permission settings via the disc utility in applications but it still will not work.
I have not yet used 5 different computers so i dont understand why it wont let me. i am using the correct password and account details.

PLEASE HELP

ibook G4, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

check if you have read & write permissions for your music folder. in finder, right-click on it and +get info+. unlock the little padlock (you may have to enter your admin password) and change the permission settings. next, click on the little gear-shaped icon and +apply to enclosed items+ like so

you may also give everyone read & write access.

Hi there thank you for getting back to me.
Unfortunately i already had those checked so it still does not work.
Can you think of anything else?

Make sure Everyone has *Read & Write* privileges to Users\Shared\ folder (this is where the iTunes authorization is stored) and *Apply to enclosed items*, even if Everyone already has *Read & Write* privileges.
i have restored the permission settings via the disc utility in applications

That is different than Sharing & Permissions tab on the Shared folder.

I used the technique described and it fixed my problem immediately. Anyone getting system statements when attempting to authorize - stating "there was an error storing your authorization information on this computer** should use the solution above.... This was about as much of a 'windows' type experience ive ever encountered with Macs. Obscure codes to solve a pretty simple issue. Yikes.
