Gmail suddenly stopped working. Connection errors. Help!

I use gmail to access emails on my iPhone 3GS and yesterday it suddenly stopped connecting, but only on 3G. If I connect to my wifi account at home it's fine but as soon as it switches to 3G I get error messages. The first one says "Cannot Get Mail. The connection to the server "imap.gmail.com" failed".

I've tried the following:
1) Turned the phone on and off
2) Deleted the account and set it up again. At this point I get a message telling me "Cannot connect using SSL"
3) Checked all the settings on my iPhone and Gmail account and they appear to be fine

Any idea what the problem might be? Thanks very much.

I have the same issue, mail is not able to get data from the gmail servers when I force a refresh it times out when done over 3G, but when at home on my wifi no issues. Interestingly enough when I restart the iPhone it will work for a few minutes but then not update. My yahoo account still works the whole time. I upgraded to iOS4 but not improvement, deleted re added accounts numerous times. I know googles having some issues with gmail atm, but this work for a little while issue makes me think its more than that.

Any help would be appreciated.
