Converting to iBook Format

Can anyone recommend the best application to convert a Word or PDF doc to the proper format for inclusion on Apple's iBook store? I would also like to locate the best application to convert books to Kindle.

MacPro, Mac OS X (10.6.1), Dual Quad-Core Intel Xeon @ 2.93 GHz - 32 GB RAM - 4 TB HD - ATI Radeon HD 4870 - 30" HD Cinema - Cintiq 21 XU

There have been numerous threads covering this topic. I suggest you do some searches on epub, smashwords, and ibook publishing to find the answers to your query.

You can use Calibre. With the program, you can convert word fines (rtf) and PDF to e pub. Even in the specific format foro the Ipad

Next iBooks update (I believe with OS4) will read PDFs. iTunes' books folder already accepts it as valid book file.

IBook PDF "support" is weak- no facing pages, no page turning, no highlighting, no dictionary... it opens a PDF sure- but what is the point if the end results are exactly the same as if you open a PDF in Mail?

I have downloaded all my ebooks from my sony reader, which are .epub books first straight to itunes and into ibooks and couldn't read them. Then I tried Calibre and I still can't get them to open. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong! I just want to read the books I purchased! I had a Sony reader but sold it and got the ipad!

Sony books have DRM on them, which will prevent other readers from opening them.
