Radio Shack misinformation?

I'm TERRIBLY sorry if this has already been asked, but I just thought i was set, until I talked to a Radio Shack guy on the phone. I called asking if they're still doing pre-orders for June 24th (because i didn't want to wait in line all night) and he said yes. So he took me through the steps, then asked for my number. I told him my phone is NOT eligible for the upgrade, and my brothers phone is, so i'm using his upgrade to obtain the iphone 4 for $200. And he said thats all fine and dandy, but the iphone will have to be activated on his number, making him switch to the $15 a month data plan. But i can switch the iphone to my number afterwords, making me both for both data plans a month. Is this true? At&t said they can easily to the switch at their store, and mentioned nothing about paying for BOTH data plans. Is Radio shack correct?

-Thanks in advance

The only way that is going to work is if you and your brother share an account. If you guys do have a joint account they will use his upgrade and your phone will be set up with his number you then have to call AT&T and switch the phones back to the correct owner. I have done this twice for mine and my daughters phone depending on who was eligible for the upgrade

Radio Shack's POS system requires that the iPhone (or any cell phone, for that matter) be activated through AT&T's POSII system in order for RS's POS to ring the phone up at the appropriate price. This means that, yes, they would have to complete the upgrade on your brother's number but AT&T's POSII system will require that at least the $15 data plan is added to your brother's line before it will allow the completion of the upgrade. The associate can then call their national retail support line for AT&T and get them to switch the phone over to your line. They should also be able to remove the data plan from your brother's phone at that time but I am uncertain as to whether you will be charged or prorated for that second data plan even though it will only be on there for a few minutes.
