I just upgraded oto OS4 which took forever. After the update the phone was responding real slow. I restarted the phone, that improved everything. So far I see no features yet. I know not to expect multitasking but a double click of the Home Button does not bring up folder feature, no change in Mail app. These two features I was looking forward to. Guess not on the 3G phone.

I also needed to restart mine. Also, when it finished all the backup, verify phone and firmware, etc. it went through a complete restore before it completed so that took longer as well.

You should be able to use the folder features for your apps...just hold them down until they wiggle and then you can drag one on top of another and it creates a folder. Way cool and easy to do. Try it!

Also, my mail does look a little different and I could select to view all my inboxes together, although I don't choose to and haven't looked at it yet.

The backup on this took about an hour on my 3G and it appears to not be progressing most of the time. At some point I left the computer and went to shower and when I returned it had gone from only 3 bars on the backup to verifying the software. So it must be very slow at the beginning and then speed up.

I noticed a few different things right away. I was able to create folders, e-mail program was updated (could read mail from all my accounts either by account or in one folder), and camera zoom.

I was disappointed that there is no background image behind the icons, just the unlock screen as usual. I'm not sure of any speed increase/decrease, but memory usage is higher. I'm sure glad that I have a app that frees memory.

To help the upgrade go faster, I whipped my iPhone clean of all my music. All my music is backed up and I've been meaning to "clean house" anyway. All that iTunes had to back up is the apps and other data like contacts. This reduced my upgrade time to about 40 minutes.

Since I pre-ordered the iPhone 4 my upgrade on my 3g was more out of curiosity than anything. If I wasn't getting a new phone so soon I would have waited a bit longer. I do like the app folder feature a lot though. That in itself makes iOS4 worthy on the 3g. I didn't like all the "screen flipping" to get to apps. Although my apps were organized, it was a bit annoying.
