iTunes Error 11222

So yesterday I decided to update my original iPhone from 3.0 to 3.1.3, I did a complete restore and after the process had finished iTunes showed and error of 11222.

I called Apple and the first two reps had no clue except to tell me to uninstall all Apple software and to reinstall it. Didn’t work.

I then attempted to do the same on another computer, same error.

I started at 12 Noon CST 6-20-10; it’s now 11AM CST 6-21 and still the same error.

*FINAL NOTE* Yesterday I was able to speak with a person higher than your average rep, who explained to me that this is a new problem as of 6-20-10 and that Apple is unsure if it is a problem on Apple or AT&T. They did explain they do know about the issue and are working to resolve the issue. I did create a case and they are to call me back when the issue is resolved. Stay updated here as I will post anything I find out.

*For those who think this is a conspiracy to get original users to upgrade. That would be against the law for Apple to do such. In most states it would fall under a deprivation of property law. Apple can and has although stopped producing updates for the original iPhone and that is perfectly legal.

Yep. Had the same experience with my wife's phone. It was working perfectly until we tried to do a restore and update. Got the 11222 error. She took it into the "genius bar" and the Apple employee told her the phone was completely broken and she would have to get a new one! I almost flipped when I heard that. Clearly they were not aware of this problem. But even so to tell a customer that has their phone was ruined by following Apple restore instructions that they are out of luck is outrageous.

Having the same problem here. Spent the last two and one half hours at AT&T and now working with the genius bar folks. We have verified that the new sim card from AT&T is valid, activated and working by putting it into an another Apple Store iPhone. This was not a 2g iPhone, however.
Have done hard resets, and a complete restore to original settings on two machines in case of corruption of iTunes software. No luck.

Same thing here in Oregon. first, i lost all reception. Side by side with my wife's 3GS, she had all bars and I had "No Service". I tried to restore and it never finished. Tried three computers, none worked, but will work with cooworkers 3GS. Now i can't get past this 11222 error either. At least I know it's not just me or something I did.

Also without a phone . . . watching this forum. . .

well, this happenned to me today. opened itunes, and updated itunes. next i plugged in my iphone, backed it up, and attempted the restore. after restore was complete, i got the "error 11222" message, and couldn't restore my iphone. kept trying, so i gave at&t a call. well, after being passed around from at&t to like 2 other reps from apple, the senior operator helped me. now my iphone is working. here are the steps we did.

1. restart computer
2. open itunes
3. plug in iphone while holding the home button.
4. itunes started connecting, and gave me the option to restore. so i did

works fine now. hope this helps.
