iPhone OS 4 Upgrade failed - now got a bricked phone. Apples fault?

Hi all,

Just tried to update to iPhone OS 4, first download failed with a "Firmware Corrupt" error, so it downloaded again. It seemed to succeed, but then got so far and stopped with an "Unknown Error Occurred (21)", and now my iPhone is stuck in recovery mode.

What on earth am I supposed to do now?

I am not pleased =(

Unplug, then replug it in. iTunes will be aware of iPhones/iPods in recovery mode, and will let you restore them.

I wish mine would brick so i could go get a new phone! I dont think im going to update though in order to get the most for my 3gs when i sell it after i get my 4.

I updated my wife's phone, its def cool! Weird to unlock the phone and have the same background as the lock screen. Spell checker is cool too! Havent played with multitasking or anything yet.

Sad thing is, this is becoming regular with every new iPhone major software update. Apple needs to learn from this, and learn FAST. I will certainly NOT be buying an iPhone 4 now.

Curious. Not once with an iPhone update, nor before that with an iiiPod touch update, nor before that back to the 3G iPod in 2003 have I once had an issue with a firmware update. Looks like that must be the norm on these updates and that Apple has it under control. MAkes me wonder what in your personal setup is causing the issues. I know folks hate to hear that, but facing a lack of complete install failure for everyone across all platforms and devices, it is most likely not a problem with Apple's end of this.
