iOS 4 - Gmail Push - Mails stucks in the outbox

Hi,

if I send mails from an 3rdApp they will stuck in the Outbox and are not sending automatic.
With 3.1.3 this works fine.

Has anyone the same issue?

I have the EXACT same problem - email stays inside the Outbox, and it never leaves when using google push. Since "multitasking" just suspends the app, the mail program is probably "suspended", and that is why it's not sending.. I think that the IMAP works differently - possibly the email gets copied somewhere on the iphone temporarily, and then, some other process that always runs in the background, picks up the email and sends it via IMAP protocols.

Server unavailability probably has NOTHING to do with this issue. I think that this would have to be an apple fix (unless there is something I don't understand about the Exchange protocol)...

The main problem is that Gmail push is not working and email retrieval is working sporadically since I updated my iPhone to iOS4 yesterday evening. Not just push but manually refreshing the email does not work all the time.

I have my gmail, google calendar and contacts set up via exchange. When I upgraded to iOS4, I added a work exchange account.

Is the problem from upgrading to iOS4?
Should I delete my google exchange account and re sync it?
Should I delete the additional work exchange account (which is working fine)?

I am lost and disappointed with the new iOS4 for failing to keep my google exchange sync!!!!

Exactly. The whole internet seems to be up-in-arms about Gmail & Google's Exchange servers not supporting iOS 4. I don't think this is the case.

Something is wrong with Gmail's servers, and I do not think it is DIRECTLY related to iOS4. It may be indirectly related, in that so many people were trying to re-set-up their Gmail accounts yesterday or that there's some anomaly that's manifesting itself between iOS 4 and Gmail. But it is not the case that iOS 4 is simply incompatible with Google's sync services.

Case-in-point, my iPhone 3G, my wife's original iPhone, and my iPad 64GB 3G all started having Google mail/calendar/contacts problems yesterday afternoon. Push notifications weren't happening, some mail wouldn't send, calendar entries weren't syncing, and often the devices weren't able to delete email messages. I stress that this was occurring on _all three devices, before I had updated the 3G to iOS4._ And this was all via WiFi, and on different WiFi networks (work & home). I noticed the problems before I even knew iOS4 had been released.

I've since updated my iPhone 3G to iOS4. It went fine. Gmail is better today on all of my iOS 3 & 4 devices, but it's still not 100% on any device. I haven't received any push notifications today on either iPad or iPhone 3G iOS4, but both will fetch mail when commanded and seem to be able to delete messages again. Calendar & Contacts appear to be syncing normally.

I suspect it's just a bug on Google's side that's related to iOS4. I am confident that they'll have everything back to normal in a few hours.

It's not just Gmail, at least not for me. Push email doesn't work for ANY of my accounts.. MS Outlook, Mobile Me, Gmail... I can get mail from all accounts (except gmail) if I go in manually, but push notifications are not working. They work fine for other apps, though. I have it switched on and I am getting badges from Facebook and others.

A work-around that will restore the functionality of Calendar and Contact sync OTA is to use NuevaSync ( http://www.nuevasync.com) -- I used this before Gmail supported the Exchange syncing and switched back to it yesterday when iOS4 broke the Google-based sync. Bear in mind that you will be giving a 3rd party access to your Gmail account information, but there is no problems that I've experienced, except for some phone type mapping (i.e., "work" vs. "mobile").

As soon as the Google-based sync is working again, I'll be switching back.

My iPhone 3GS with iOS4 upgrade stopped syncing with Google exchange since yesterday but the problem was fixed as of 130pm EST today!

It was a Google exchange server problem but it has been fixed minutes ago for me. Was it fixed for everyone else? Google Gmail, calenders and contacts work best if set up via Exchange on the iPhone so I'm glad they fixed it!!!!

I've been running iOS4 since June 9 and I can say that these problems have occurred for me since then whenever I had two exchange accounts setup. With two accounts one or both would stop receiving and/or mail would get stuck in the outbox (neither account could send mail). Killing mail.app and having it relaunch would get one good mail retrieval and then the trouble would start again.

Delete one of the Exchange accounts and the remaining one would start working perfectly again. Add the other account back and the problems come back. My troubles occur when both Exchange accounts are on the same server and when they are on two different servers. I suspect this might have something to do with the way iOS4 handles the credentials for each account.
