OS4 upgrade failed & will not restore - error code (21)!!!

My OS4 upgrade failed & will not restore - error code (21)!!!
My iphone 3gs is now stuck on a black screen and when i plug it into itunes it says that it needs to be restored. When i restore the phone it just says restore failed with error code 21? Does anyone know how to sort this please?

3gs, Windows XP

Wierd, the update here went flawlessly, didnt even have to restore from backup, it was up and running with everything I had there prior to the update after the update.

wish mine went that well.
i spoke to apple earlier and all they said was to re-install itunes which i did but still with the same problem.

I was on the phone to Apple for over an hour with the same problem - waiting for a call back as they couldn't resolve it. Need my phone back this week - in the middle of a load of job interviews. Aaarrrggghhh!

Mine is now trying to force a system reset, but then says 'an error has occured (21)

Does this mean i now can't even use my iphone on the old settings? When i turn it on it just asks me to plug in (like when it's new!)

I'm having exactly the same problem and now my phone wont work at all. have booked a genius slot at the apple store but not for 2 days. not happy!

Seems like I am the only one from the states in this thread who doesnt have issues, all of you are from uk who are having issues, thats quite bizzare.

well spotted - can all us UK people with Error code (21) reply with the Network we are on to see if that narrows it down even more - I'm on Orange.

i'm on 02...so already it looks like it's Apple's **** up and not network's. Anyone got any suggestions? If you backed it up first, will it keep all your content when we can finally update? Will it system restore then restone from back up?
