Slow iPhone 3G after iOS 4

Why is my 3G so slow?????????? I updated to 4.0 and my 3G has been having issues ever since. I really cant stand it! the rotation takes like 5 seconds, switching home screens is jumpy, the iPod crashes if you use the purchased link in the iTunes app. Folders open and close slowly, and when I lock it the lock noise plays then it plays like 3 more times. Settings also crashes!!!

is anyone else having these problems? Im really confused. It didn't do this with 3.1. I've also never done anything like jail breaking it....

I've tried restarting but nothing works, any help, Is it time for a 3GS?

Ancient Artist, if you sync your iPhone with your computer, then all your data is safe. You just need to invest a little time on repopulating your iPhone with your data and forget about the backup part. It really helps making your 3G "faster" again. But I'm not saying it doesn't slow it down. It really does. Some days runs fine, some days is garbage.

again..... my iPhone 3G is garbage after iOS4. Did restore as new phone, but after a couple days, back to garbage. Even typing text messages is annoying. Delays on the characters,...

This is one of the most annoying issues. I can actually get way ahead of the display when I am typing.

This is a very disappointing experience, but the silence, from Apple, is even more frustrating!

My phone and all apps were working Great. After OS4 my phone is slower on everything! The biggest thing for me is now I can't use the last.fm or pandora apps. The first few songs play, then the songs start skipping like an old cd, or the app just crashes, or my phone freezes. I have restored my phone, and have deleted the apps from the phone and itunes, and reinstalled. Still same crappy result. I did also call the apple help # yesterday, and was told yes the OS4 does not work well with 3G, but there is no fix. Can we get the old OS back? Thankfully my 2-year contract ends in two months -- many more choices out there now with no ATT attached.

Apple, what are you doing to your loyal customers. If you recently got a 3G and upgraded to the iOS 4 software, your 3G is borderline useless. It has been made unaffordable to break contract and purchase the new phone. I have called Apple Support 2 times and they are "well aware of the issue". However, your site still says it is compatible with the 3G. WTH?

You owe your customers an update to our now useless 3G phones.

Is something in the works?

Please help!

My experience is similar to the majority of posts here. I find that over time performance is slowing to a crawl (unusable), so I'm forced to reboot my iPhone daily, otherwise it gets to a point where I can't even answer a call because there is a delayed reaction to touch! I'm hoping apple recognizes this is a major pain for 3g users and issues a new update asap.

Upgraded my wifes 3G to 4.0 and have had nothing but problems since. I have restored as a new phone and hard reset the thing until my fingers were numb. Slight increases in speed can be had but they are all temporary. If we don't have an update or word on a fix soon I suppose I'll have to manually take it back a version. Pretty sad when we have to resort to downgrading ourselves after Apple rendered the perfectly capable 3G useless and slow.

Thanks Apple.

I had all the problems over slowness and battery life that people here have complained about and did the restore as new phone, hard resets etc. What did eventually work although I can't be sure as I tried so much, was a Reset all Settings and letting the battery drain till the phone switched off and leaving it to recharge fully before using it again. I've had it on standby for 2 days 3 hours now with 4 1/4 hours usage and it still hasn't dropped to 20%.

That's probably low usage by most people's standards and admittedly it's been mostly on wifi in that time but there's no doubt it's a huge improvement on its recent performance.
