Iphone iOS 4 Contact Birthday Date Bug.

Hello,

Every time I add a contact and add their birthday the date of the birthday automatically moves by one day.

For example, I will select someones birthday as the 23rd of march and click done but the contact birthday shows 24th. Even if I select a random date say 1st June, it will say 2nd.

When I go into the calendar app and display the birthday calendar the birthdays are right though, it will have a notification as a birthday on the 23rd.

I have done a fresh restore from a backup and as a new iphone, still I have the error.

I'm thinking that the contact list in iOS4 is set to a specific timezone different from my phones timezone as it adjusts it for a day. I live in New Zealand and my timezone settings are set to Auckland, New Zealand, even in the calendar time zone. When I change my timezone settings to somewhere in the USA it automatically changes the contacts birthdays to the correct date. When I change it back it adjusts te birthdays by a day again. This would be correct as the 23rd in USA would be the 24th here but my contacts are not in a different timezone so why does my iphone think they are? Even if a add a new contact it still changes the birthday date.

Any help would be great.

Iphone 3GS, iOS 4

The topic is ancient, but until now the problem was not solved.

The problem regarding birthdays and anniversaries that appear on the iPhone one day earlier as well as appointments for a whole day that start at 11pm of the previous day and already end at 11pm of the actual day, appears to originate from Windows and Outlook, even if dates exported from Outlook appear correctly.
Microsoft has a Help and Support Center for the topic „Daylight Saving“:
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/cp_dst
There is a list of products effected by daylight saving:
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/dst_prodlist
Naturally, at first the operating system and thereafter the application are to be updated.

For example, the operating system be Windows XP, Service Pack 3 and the application be Outlook 2007.

The „Update for Windows XP (KB951072)“ is available at:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=81D03DA3-846C-4F7F-8 791-CD9943CE0893&displaylang=en
Select langauge of operating system, thereafter download file, for example „WindowsXP-KB951072-v2-x86-ENU.exe“ for english or „WindowsXP-KB951072-v2-x86-DEU.exe“ for german, and run file. Naturally, the operating system may already be up to date, then a corresponding message will appear.

The update for Outlook 2007 „Microsoft Office Outlook Tool: Time Zone Data Update Tool for Microsoft Office Outlook 32-bit“ is available at:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=%20E343A233-B9C8-465 2-9DD8-AE0F1AF62568&displaylang=en
Select language of the application, thereafter download file „OutlookTimeZoneMove.exe“ downloaden and run file.

It has work fine for me, the (initially inexplicable) shift in May 1965 disappeared (May has summertime, but not before 1980).
Naturally, there is NO GARANTEE, that the described solution will work in a particular case.

Alternatively (and with much effort), prior to synchronizing the iPhone, the checkbox for „Automatically adjust for day light saving changes“ can be removed/unselected in „Control Panel“ under „Date and Time“ in the tab „Time Zone“ and the change must be confirmed. Now, for me the shift in May 1965 has also disappeared. Thereafter, if need be, the checkbox may be set/selected again.

/* German version */

http://support.microsoft.com/gp/cp_dst
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/dst_prodlist/de#WXPProSP2

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=de&FamilyID=81d03da3 -846c-4f7f-8791-cd9943ce0893

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=de&FamilyID=e343a233 -b9c8-4652-9dd8-ae0f1af62568

To everyone having this contact list date bug problem, please be aware:

1) This bug in iOS4 IS NOT LIMITED TO A TIMEZONE, OR LIMITED TO NEW ZEALAND. I have the same problem on the east coast of the US.

2) This bug IS NOT LIMITED TO OUTLOOK. I hate Outlook, and have never used it with my iPhone (an iPhone 4 running iOS 4.2.1). I sync with Google Contacts and Google Calendar.

Apple developers, please pay attention - having seen threads about this problem all over the place, this is clearly a very widespread problem.

I suggest that everyone else who is having this problem use this link to report this bug to Apple. If enough of us complain, maybe they'll fix it!

Yes the dates being one day out when you sync is still a problem in iOS4.3.
I use Windows 7 64bit and Oulook 2010 and found a work-around until the problem is fixed.

1/ In Outlook 2010 File > Options > Calendar - Time zone. Change the Time Zone to any of the -Times Zones like (UTC-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)
2/ Go into each of your Outlook Contacts and change the Birthday date to 2 days in advance of what it should be and Save the Contact.
3/ Sync the iPhone in iTunes
4/ Go into each of your Outlook Contacts again and change the Birthday date to the correct date and Save the Contact.
5/ Sync the iPhone in iTunes
6/ In Outlook 2010 File > Options > Calendar - Time zone. Change the Time Zone back to (UTC+12:00) Auckland, Wellington
7/ Sync the iPhone in iTunes
8/ Check each of your Contacts Birthday dates in your iPhone and in Outlook and they should show the correct dates now. Also the Calendars will be correct as well.

This worked for me here in New Zealand and survives further syncing when changing the Contact details in Outlook but if you change them in the iPhone the date will get corrupted and you'll need to go through the above procedure to fix the date again for that Contact.

nice thread.. I thought I was going nuts.. added birthday to my contact and it appears 2 days out.. tried it on a few contacts and the issue is consistent.
if I set the date to 7th, it shows (immediately) as 8th. I back out to contacts then into that same contact and it's incremented to 9th... it stays there, so I just changed it to the 5th in order for it to settle on 7th... this is the first apple product I've ever owned, and I have to laugh at the claims by apple evangelists at how much easier it is to use apple products.. really? I have to trick this thing into getting the right date? phhffttt..

I realize this thread started about a bug in iOS4, but I have a new iPhone 4S with iOS5 and the bug is still present. The calendar displays the birthday information incorrectly, but I'd you look in the contacts app the dates are correct. Apparently the issue is for contacts that got loaded via a sync with my Mac, which I'd think is very common. The only workaround I've found is to delete the birthdate, save, then re-enter the birthdate and save. I have a few hundred contacts and having to redo all of their birthdates is far from ideal. I also don't know if or what will happen the next time I sync with my Mac. Hopefully Apple will fix this bug.
