Error - 3259

Can anyone help me what a can I do? I tried to install the new softeware and at the end this alert appears: "There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone... The network connection timed out. Error - 3259"

I tried about 20 times and I got the same message over and over again. My internet connection is good... So can anyone explain me how can I resolve this problem?

I had this error last night - I'm in the UK and it was released at 6pm and I tried from 7pm until 11pm to download and had an estimated download time of six hours and it would reach 30mb and then give me that error message every time. I assumed it was due to demand but I knew several friends who downloaded and updated within the hour so it was very frustrating.

I eventually Googled 'iTunes error 3259' in desperation, as the error is not specific to OS updates and can occur with anything you download via iTunes. I found a helpful website that told me to untick 'allow simultaneous downloads', then log out of iTunes and log back in again to refresh it (sort of!) and then to open 'Run' from your Start menu and type 'msconfig' and press Enter. Select the 'start-up' tab and scroll through the list to ensure that both iTunes and QuickTime are ticked to run at start-up. I then rebooted my laptop.

I then started all over again and I then had an estimated download time of three hours (not so great but more promising) and I then left it downloading and went to bed. When I got up this morning, it had downloaded completely and not stalled halfway through. So whilst I'm sure it still took a long time, the only time it actually worked was after I had taken all those actions. Whether that was a coincidence or not, I can't be sure. But worth a try!

I had the same problem, after almost 7 hours of trying, I decided to use another computer with Win XP ,(I was using Win7), for some reason I was able to download, backup and install iOS4 without any problems with contacts, sounds, calendar or any other problems some other users are having. So far happy with the upgrade. I connected the iPhone back to the Win7 computer to do a sync and another backup and worked like a charm... Hope this will help.

I ran into the same problem when I try to update my iPhone to iOS4. It is really frustrating that the error message will only appear when it's almost done downloading.

What I did is I disabled my McAfee and went on updating. I got the same error the first time but it downloaded just fine after I restarted iTunes and ran again the update. I downloaded the software then manually do the update. Update should take about 5minutes or less.

Note: if you have firewall enabled, try to disable it for the meantime.

I disabled my security suite.
I disabled family sharing
I disable all communication (3G, etc...) and I have set the "plane" mode
I did connect the USB cable direct on my PC and not to an Hub
I disabled "multiple download" in iTunes...

Nothing! Still the same problem!!! and every time stop at 1 KB to the end!!

For all you windows users the following link posted by ambarsaria works like a charm:

http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone4/061-7437. 20100621.5urG8/iPhone2,14.0_8A293Restore.ipsw

Just like he said, while holding down the shift key, in iTunes, click the restore button for your iPhone 3GS, and then select the downloaded .ipsw file. Of course you need to unzip it if your browser didn't do that for you already. Please make sure you back up ALL ALL ALL of your data before, because if I remember right, this will wipe your data.

Don't quote me on this, but mac users, I believe you can do the EXACT same thing, as long as you hold the Option (alt) key down, while clicking the Restore button for your iPhone 3GS in iTunes. But once again, make sure all of your data is BACKED UP!!!

That's a good work around but it doesn't solve the problem! This is evidently an issue between Mac's and PC's, I've been trying to resolve the issue on my end but I can find NO issues with my network! The update downloads all 579.3 MB then decides to time out, that makes no sense to me! There has to be another issue in common with all of us that causing Apple's servers to not complete the download. Then again I may be totally off base!
