iPhone not working with Pioneer Car stereo

I have the same problem!! I upgrade to iOS 4 and when i connected to my car stereo Sony MEX-BT3750U , it will show "reading" and no more action.
anyone know the solution? what is hard reset?

I have a similar problem with my JVC head unit. Using the USB connection it will play for a while and then stop, think about it for a while then start again. The cycle just keeps repeating. It works on bluetooth fine but I had to make sure that the volume was turned up on the iPhone otherwise it was very quiet. This is an iOS 4 problem as it was working fine with OS 3.

I have the same problem with my car stereo, a pioneer FH-P8000BT. I tried a hard reset of the iPhone and a hard reset of the stereo. It still doesn't work. The funny thing is the bluetooth telephone works, and the USB connection works, but the bluetooth streaming audio does not work.

Did you have yours via bluetooth?.. I have a similar problem.. I have to set the volume to its highest setting in order to hear the ipod on the iphone via bluetooth...I am gonna do a hard setup after work and try that out..

Arrggh no luck.. it didn't work in my A2DP profile on my work car which is a DUAL and it didnt work on my weekend car which is at Pioneer also..
I tried to re-set it by holding both buttons.. and just by sliding it off but no luck..
Both worked flawlessly in the previous OS..

I am right now trying to restore to the previous OS, I hope I can, ..

I seem to have stumbled across and interesting problem by where if I use the 30 pin connector and try and plug it into the car stereo (iPhone 3GS) it will sit there blinking "reading" and gets no further.
Any one got any clues to why this might be... Normally the car stereo will control the iPod ie songs and playlists are selected off the head unit not the phone

I have a Sony CDX-GT640UI headunit that wouldn't work this morning after upgrading to the new iphone os 4.0 also. After talking to Apple and Sony, they didn't have any solutions. As soon as I got home from work, I found this discussion and decided to give the hard reset a try. IT WORKED!!! I can play my music again with my iphone via USB connection on the headunit. Thanks for the help!

FYI: Hard reset is when you hold the top button and the home button together until the Apple logo comes up. The "slide to turn phone off will come on, but keep on holding the buttons down until the Apple logo comes up. Once the phone reboots, connect it to the car head unit and it should work.

I have a Sony CDX-GT730UT model and I also tried the hard reset (holding the top button and the home button down until the apple showed up) and it worked! Yesterday after updating the OS I tried just turning it off by using the slide bar but not a hard restart. Thanks for the suggestion.

The method used to recognize the USB device has a clever bit of code in the firmware to improve the connect time once the initial handshake with the device has been established. So after the update to iOS4, the host device (Car Stereo) still thinks that it is connecting to the un-updated client device (iPhone prior to updating to iOS4) The updated client device (Your iPhone with iOS4), must fool the host device (Your car stereo), into believing that it is an entirely new device. This is done by connecting your iPhone to the stereo head USB port with the iPhone switched off completely. This is achieved by holding down the top power button on the iPhone until the red slide bar comes up and prompts you to shut the iPhone down. Do this and then with the car stereo switched on, plug the iPhone into the USB socket and wait till the iPhone starts of it's own accord. If it does not start, press the top power button on the phone until it starts. This will force the host device (Your car stereo) and the client device (Your iPhone) to re-negotiate the handshake between the devices and get you back to where you will once again be happy.

Now we can all stop beating up both the Car Stereo manufacturers and Apple and focus on being civil gentle folk that enjoy discussions about how clever we all are to be able to use amazing technology to get ourselves over-stressed and irritable.

I almost lost my mind when I saw that my iPhone 3 gs no longer fed through my car stereo via USB connection after upgrading to the iPhone 4 software. I have a 2010 Honda CRV. I read the thread and found the simplest solution, restart the phone while it is connected to the USB port. Alas, it worked! Better than the solution I got calling apple tech support telling me I would have to upgrade my car's computer system to a version compatible with iPhone 4 software. Idiot!

P.s. I think appleknew this was going to happen and should have informed and prepared absolution for it's costumers. Way to cause a ruckus apple!!!
