Error Code -402653077 and -402653...from OS 4.0 update on 3G PLEASE ANSWER

so it seems I too have joined the ranks of non-working iPhone 3G members. Im sooooo mad because no one from Apple has responded, put an URGENT message anywhere.
-402653077 is the second error I got, the first was something like -4026530.....
Has ANYONE been able to use the DFU setting to restore. I can't even do this. The only thing that does work is turning the phone off holding the two buttons down for over 15 secs. Odd the website says do not disconnect your phone while updating but in my situation iTunes stopped syncing.
Now as i sit here and type iTunes tries to sync the update on the loading screen that only shows the apple icon and the progress bar. (Black background)

To Solve this issue, you need to first put iPhone into DFU mode:

1. Check this posts on how to put iPhone in DFU mode – http://iphoneindia.gyanin.com/2009/10/07/errorcode-are-you-getting-error-21-or-1 600-while-restoring-iphone/
2. These two posts might be helpful as well, iClarified’s http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1034 and http://iphoneindia.gyanin.com/2008/08/12/how-to-fix-dfu-error-1604-1602-1601-or- error-6-1-2-while-upgrading-to-20-201-2x-firmware/

Once you successfully enter DFU mode, iPhone will be back to a blanked OS4 install mode. iTunes will then run through the restore process and start installing apps one by one and rest of the data.

Hopefully this process works with you guys.

After the whole DFU mess...

It offered to let me restore to the previous backup. Then started crashing out whilst installing apps, yet again. It looks like Apple can't write stable backup files.

Accepting nuking my backup, I got yet another clean iOS4 install and then slowly started rebuilding it. To add insult to injury, somewhere in the process it had blanked my Windows Contacts so not only did I lose all iPhone contacts, I lost my backups too.

Fortunately, I happened to have just reinstalled windows and the windows.old directory had my old users directory and all of the contacts within it, ready to be reimported. I've lost a bunch of photos but at least I have my contacts still.

Moral of the story: No matter how much iTunes claims it's doing a backup, utterly distrust it, make your own backups of everything. Then take a copy of them and put them somewhere iTunes can't screw them up.

My iPhone is now a paper weight and nobody seems to have any answers on how to make my phone work again. I have gotten two error messages. The first read “An error occurred while restoring this iPhone (-402653077).” The second one reads “An error occurred while restoring this iPhone (-402653091).” My phone is caught in a loop between sync, crash and then it tries to reboot.
Does anybody have any suggestions? I expect this from Microsoft but I held Apple in better esteem but I must have been wrong. Do you think Apple even cares? I see they haven’t offered any suggestions and you sure can’t get through to tech support.

I tried the DFU reset, and I was very excited because it seemed like it was going to work. I restored the phone and it went through all the steps to get back going. Yet when I got to the last step of putting everything back on, guess what happened? THE INFINITE LOOP!! I'm beyond frustrated with the fact that Apple has not said anything towards fixing the problem. I'm paying AT&T right now for a phone plan for a $300 paperweight.

Here is what I did with my 3G looping update. Turned it off and back on holding power and home buttons, connected it to a Windows 7 Itunes PC and chose Restore.
Once it didi it's thing all my data was gone but the phone worked and had updated to IOS4.
Then I took it back to my G5 and connected it and restored it from my backup and now all is working again and my data is back on it.

Hope this helps.

I had the same problems described here on two iPhone 3G. After an appointment with the Genius Bar this afternoon, the tech walked me through the DFU restore process to try on the other iPhone at home. I lost all of my info, of course, but the phone seems to be working now with iOS 4.0.

I'm not happy with the Microsoft-like way in which this software was released when it obviously isn't ready to work with all devices, but my problems seem to be resolved.
