iOS4 mishandling email atachments

I upgraded to iOS4 early this afternoon. Since then I have been unable to view any email attachments, be it PDF, XLS, or DOC. All I get to see is a low res view of the first page as if it were a picture attachment. There is no icon of an attached file, just a picture.

Another post suggested Stanza might be interfering... but I deleted it as well as another app called Mobile Toolz (office suite) just in case. Still I can not view attachments.

I tried force quitting the mail app and restarting my phone. Now I'm in the process of re-syncing the phone to iTunes... but I have low expectations of that solving the problem.

Any ideas?

I am unable to view any email attachments as well. I can confirm PDF's and DOCS do not open in Mail. All I get is the low res view you are talking about. I thought it was because I didn't have iBooks installed, because they added the PDF functionality in iBooks, so I downloaded that and it still won't let me view the attachments. Hopefully their is a fix soon. I don't understand why more people aren't having this problem. Opening email attachments is a pretty big thing to mess up on.

Same problem here, but I've only noticed it with PDFs. XLS and CSV files show up as usual with the button link, and the XLS even gave me an option to open it in Air Sharing Pro. I tried removing several apps including Air Sharing Pro, QuickOffice, Stanza, iBooks, Kindle, and AppToolKitLite, but even after restarting several times it didn't change anything with the PDFs. They still show up as single low-res images. I've noticed that whenever Mail starts up the first time and the email loads, there is a bit of a lag before the image appears though. I can't think of any other apps that could be causing the problem. And I hesitate to restore just for the time it will take and I don't want to lose any app data.

BTW, when I tried saving the PDF image it was almost unviewable in the Photos app. It was blurry and nearly a third of it was black.

I talked to an Apple Support technician today for an hour and fifteen minutes. They couldn't find why it wasn't working, so they had me do a fresh install of the OS, and not restore from a backup. I can confirm that the attachments now open as they are suppose to. However, doing it this way you lose all of the information associated with your apps because you have to reinstall them all again. 😟

Hopefully they'll have an easier and more efficient fix soon.
