Iphone 3G OS4 problems

Just downloaded and installed the OS4 for my 16gb Iphonr 3G had no errors or anything installing it like some of the other guys have posted BUT!.... once installed my iphone has been very slow only word i can use to discribe it is "lagy" my iphone has only got like 6gb out of the 16gb used so it shouldnt be that i dont have many apps installed But why this lag? Once i click the home button to open the unlock screen 20 seconds later it will finally open i cant use my phone until this is fixed.

Mail: Just checked my mail inbox to find 2000+ emails which i have already deleted on the iphone and now ive got to go through and tick every single email to delete it wheres the "select all" button? the OS before OS 4 had this? and no way of getting emails which i have deleted back? once i click delete they are gone forever unlike the old OS it would put them in a deleted folder which i can click "empty" so it would be good if they could bring that back in the next update.

Thanks,

There was never a Select All button in the Inbox only in the Trash folder. I know that because I always wanted one! And the Trash folder is still there - on the mail screen the top section is just inboxes - you need to go to the individual account in the group below and you get the Trash folder.

Haen't noticed a huge deterioration in performance except in the camera which seems VERY slow now.

I downloaded the os4 update yesterday to my iphone 3g, the phone is slower, seems like its sticking even. The worst thing is i have lost all my 200 plus contacts, my notes, all my email settings, text messages. This is so inconvienient. I phoned apple technical support and they could not help me, the lady even said no one had called her to complain about lost contacts etc.. and yet this forum is full of people with similar problems!! I wish I had thought to check this forum before carrying out the update! But you just think apple would have tested this extensively and I had no problems with last year's update/

My iPhone 8Gb 3G is soooo slow after "upgrading" to OS4. Unlocking the phone sometimes takes 5-10 seconds and the home screen icons literally stop converging halfway through and then 2 seconds later, finish off.

Other things are ridiculously slow, such as opening and replying to texts. Good one Apple, maybe you want us all to upgrade to the iPhone 4 so that OS4 actually runs at a manageable speed?

I have exactly the same issue. All upgraded and sync'd ok no problem but my 16gb iphone 3G is now so slow I'm even considering getting my old brick out so that I can at least make a call without needing to quesetion weather or not I have the time to do it. All apps take ages to open regardless of what they are, messaging slow, keyboard inputting slow, phone slow. I rely on this for business but until this is resolved i can no longer rely on it for that. I thought this was just me but everyone I'm in cotact with is experiencing the same thing.

I do hope apple are reading this post and trust that they will very quicly respond with an update that will fix this problem and make this device what it used to be. I'll keep watching this post in the hope that someone has some further info.

The things that you say are 'slow' after the upgrade appear to be faster for us, so I'm guessing that you haven't tried a 'reset' (not simply a 'power-off/power-on')?

Give it a go: press and hold sleep/wake and Home buttons together, ignoring everything until the Apple logo appears 5-10 seconds later, then release.

Good luck, and I hope that you'll end up as happy and impressed as were we.....

I downloaded OS4 yesterday and tried to install it on my 3G, but I encountered the same problem as many of you on this forum had. The back up process would freeze at about 10% of the way and would not progress. I aborted it many times, rebooted my iphone and Macbook and then tried again, same problem. I erased the 13 gigs of music thinking that it would help, tried again, same problem.

Reading from other users on this forum that actually managed to successfully install OS4 on their 3G, they all seem to have problems with speed and other issues after installation.

Conclusion: just stick to OS 3.1.3 until Apple comes out with a more stable workable version of OS4 for the 3G or just upgrade to iPhone 4 when you get the chance. =)
