why are some entries in white with dotted lines around them?

I use Ical to sync with an exchange account. most entries from my corp exchange calendars are in green but for some reason, some are in white with dotted lines around them. anybody know why?

MacBook Pro (2.4Ghz), iMac G4, iPhone 3GS, Mac OS X (10.6.1)
