My mail on iPad wil not stay open. Can anyone help? I have had the iPad since April 28. It was working ok. Today this problem started. I want to erase messages but it will not stay open long enough for me to do this

    Have you tried resetting the iPad? Resetting is depressing the Home and Sleep buttons at the same time till the Apple logo comes on and then with the iPad is off, repeating the button pushing to restart the iPad.

    I have just tried the reset. Problem is still there..I think it is because mailbox is full 224 emails, but it will not stay open long enough to enable me to delete the emails

    Can't you use another computer to delete some emails?

    Whose (who provides the email service) mail do you want to delete? Many providers have an WebMail option where you can use (read, rely compose) the service through a webpage. You can probably do this through Safari on your iPad.

    Thank you everybody! But I have solved the problem on both iPad and iPhone by deleting the email account and then setting it up again. I had it on to display 200 emails and once it reached that I could not erase as mail would not stay open. Does anyone think that this is a glitch in the iPad??
    Once I deleted the account it got rid of all the emails and I am starting fresh again. Of corse all the emails are still on my computer!

    Is this an IMAP account? With that setting, it is supposed to keep the last 200 messages on a rotating basis. I suspect some file corruption occurred in one ore more messages. If it does not happen again, dismiss the error.

    My Ipad 3g developed same problem. my server settings same as my wife's iPad which works. Tried reinstalling the account. Tried restarts x 4 with various settings on smtp. My gmail and mobile me mail stays on and i can read but the main pop mail account-lights up, can see the messages briefly then the mail won't stay open. any new thoughts?

    I too had the same problem. Deleted permanently my emails and deleted my account restarted waa lah fixed! I wish I had read this sight first not four hours of troubleshooting later:)
