iOS4 Mail hanging

I have an iPhone 3GS with iOS 4.

I have encountered the same problem with my mail accounts just after upgrading from iPhone OS 3.1.3 to iOS 4. When connected to the 3G network (the one I pay for...) Mail app keeps on "connecting..." and that's all..
Restarting the iPhone doesnn't fix the problem, the only way to receive Mail is connecting the iPhone via WiFi.

I hope they fix it quickly, if not, I'm downgrading to 3.1.3 again... I don't understand how this is not tested... mail is very important to fail in this way.

I am also having the same EXACT problem as stated. My phone is a 3G, upgraded from 3.1.3 to 4.0, and now Exchange email no longer works. It just sits there and says "connecting", performed a restore, reset..etc. Does not work.

Same here. 3Gs. 32GB. After IOS4 upgrade. Mail is hanging when I open the mail app, or sometimes when I change to another Inbox. I did a restore today and it did not appear to have any impact. New phone is coming tomorrow, I hope this isn't a problem then.

I am also having a problem with mail. I forward a mail and it simply disappears and is never sent. It does not appear anywhere it just disappears. I close mail from the multitask setting, re open mail and it works fine for the next several mails I send, then suddenly it happens again and the the mails I try to send simply disappear.

I'm having the same problem. It loads the mail, then hangs later. I have to reboot the Iphone and then it works fine

I have the same issue. I can't check my gmail or my other IMAP4 address. I'll just hang saying "checking for mail."

I am experiencing the same problem and have not been able to fix it, even after several reboots.
I tried to troubleshoot it by selectively turning off all my six different mail accounts (POP and IMAP) and trying again with every single on of them.
It still hangs every single time, even with Apple's own Mobile Me.
What a poorly designed downgrade.

I've been having the same issue. Rebooting tends to fix the problem but rebooting 5 times a day can get old. I found that force crashing Mail App works the same. Hold down the power button until the slider comes up. Then hold down the home button until you see your home screen again. Same result, easier way of getting it until this gets fixed. I know, it's annoying. Major software upgrades have their bugs. It is what it is.

I am experiencing major problems with my MobileMe Mail account on my iPhone 3GS after updating to iOS4. I don't get automatic push notification of an email and manually checking for mail is extremely slow even on my wi-fi network. I have no problem with my iPad, MacBook Pro or even my G5 in sending/receiving email. I need this to be fixed ASAP as I need email on my iPhone for my business. I am considering a downgrade to 3.13 as I need my email more than the bells and whistles of iOS4!

We can take small comfort in the knowledge that we are not alone, I am sure Apple will be on this if enough people complain.

Yup, my mail hangs too at various points. When switching mailboxes, when downloading (all on IMAP), etc. It usually runs again after waiting a minute w/o closing or rebooting though. Glad to see I'm not the only one. (also, i preferred the old separate accounts mail home screen... not a fan of unified inbox!)

Same here. I mean, seriously - how do you screw up email? Did they even test this?

BTW, deleting and re-adding the accounts didn't work either. Looks like the restart worked, but am I going to have to do this every time I want to check my mail?

Even easier way just discovered. Quit Mail, double tap home to bring up task switching/management, hold mail icon until icons "dance" and hit the minus button on mail. You've just killed Mail from running in the background and can start over. Worked for me.

I'm having the same problem and now the Mail app is completly useless. Just hangs, downloading email forever in G3 and Wifi with Exchange and Imap accounts. Restart didn't work.

Thanks for the tip! It allowed emails to download but I still don't have my 'push' capabilities with my MobileMe Mail account. On hold with tech support right now so I will post the results of this call shortly. Thanks again.
