iOS4.0 not syncing contacts via Bluetooth to Vtech DECT 6.0 Phone system

Hello Everyone,

I just upgraded my wife and my iphones to OS 4.0 this morning. So far I haven't experienced most of the problems being reported in many discussions but I have one that seems to be pretty unique. I have a Vtech DECT 6.0 home phone system. It is able to have 2 cell phones connected to it via bluetooth. It basically makes you cell phone work like a land line through bluetooth. It is also able to sync your contacts through bluetooth and was working perfectly until today's upgrade. The phones connect correctly and I can make and recieve calls but when I sync the contacts they only show the phone numbers on my Vtech phone and not the names of the contacts. On OS Ver 3.1.3 the names and contact type (eg. cell, home, etc.) transferred to the Vtech without a problem and displayed correctly in the directory, now just the number shows up. Its not terribly helpful when you cant see who the number is associated with. Anyone have any similar problems? Any suggestions?

I have already re-paired both phones with the Vtech as well as re-synced both contacts with the Vtech. Every time I do this I get the same result. If I cant find a solution here I will send a complaint to apple but I want to be sure I try everything else first.

Thanks

P.S. My phone is an iPhone 3G and my wifes phone is a 3GS

So I have an old iphone that I use for music in my car. I synced all up to date contacts with itunes, then I synced my numbers AND names to the vtech. All good. put the iphone back in my car. Then I paired the new iphone 4 with the vtech and it connected. It still doesn't transfer names, but it connects and I use it at home, because of signal issues, like I did before. Names and contacts from old iphone. Connection from new iphone. Its not pretty, its a work around until the address the bluetooth sync issue in a new OS, hopefully.

Me too!! I have a 3GS running iOS 4.0.1, and just purchased the VTech DS6321-3. I synced my numbers, but they have no names. I called VTech and they said they were working on some sort of update and that I would just have to keep checking their website. I asked them how that would work (since you can't download firmware for the VTech phone), and they said it would most likely be something that could be done by resetting the base system myself. However, that particular customer service rep didn't seem to know what she was talking about (she thought it was possible downgrade to the previous iOS -- which it isn't). I think I just have to return the VTech phone. Bummer.

And just for the record, I would like to say that upgrading to iOS 4 has been such a headache. There are so many things that I miss from the old iOS...

WHERE WE STAND:
1. Iphone 4 has bluetooth Muffled sound to Incoming calling party, outgoing calls
are for most part ok. When connected, quality and range of audio is very
reduced with minimal performance. Bluetooth device drops on and off while
paired.
Trouble pairing some devices that work fine with other phones and cars. Stereo
headphone devices range, quality very reduced for various makes/models.
2. Problem appears to NOT be any single make/model of bluetooth device.

3. Attempted Fixes:
A) Soft reset of iPhone4 under settings....No help.
B) Hard reset of iPhone4 -Holding Home and power button at same time..NO Help.
C) Complete Reset of iPhone4 with iTunes....No Help.
D) Switching bluetooth On and Off while on call....No Help.
E) Removing bluetooth device on iPhone (ignore this device) and re-pairing
device as new....No Help.
D) Switching from speaker to bluetooth to iPhone to bluetooth....No Help.
E) Installing insulted iPhone cover, sleeve....No Help.
F) Contacting Apple support with trouble ticket MANY Times....NO HELP.

I have taken delivery of a 3Gs and it wont sync the contacts across to the factory fitted hands free kit in my Renault Scenic. On the former OS3 it worked properly without any problem. All I can do now is receive calls as I have to pick up the phone to dial. I even borrowed a 3g and after it automatically upgraded the software to OS4 it did the same. Thanks to everyone for posting this discussion and I now know its not the fault of the kit in the car. Apple should quickly sort this out as its rendered a very expensive piece of equipment in my car almost useless.

I just wanted to be added to the mix as well. After reading the many posts already, I was hoping to find a "FIXED" at the end, but sad to say nope. I have an iPhone 4 and just purchased the VTech 6321, and was sad to see it only imported Numbers and not names. I mistakenly contact VTech, when after seeing these posts its APPLE's fault, not VTechs.

This, antennae gate, the "don't hold it that way" comment, then the "free bumper fix", and then come to find out I can't even use my old chargers with the iPhone 4 in the bumper, Apple is going downhill.....SAD

I HOPE they fix this soon.

I have the same behavior with my iPhone 4 AND with my iPhone 3G, both on iOS 4.0.1. My VTech DS6322-3 used to function perfectly, but now the iPhone connects intermittently and contacts on cordless phone shows numbers with no names.

The 2011 BMW iDrive seems to work with my iPhone 4 so far, but when having an active call before getting in and starting the car people will often complain that they can barely hear me. Compared to my previous 07 335i, the call switches to iDrive about 30 seconds faster. I can no longer control the Bluetooth Hands Free Volume level by using the iPhone's side buttons during a call when BT HF is active.

I guess there was a reason why I kept my iPhone 2G, so for now I'll restore my contacts on VTech from there.

Let's get it together, Apple Engineering!!

I'd like to chime in with: ARGH.

I'm having this problem as well. Pre iOS 4 contacts syncing with VTECH bluetooth phone was and is fine. With iOS 4 I can only sync numbers and not names... which is remarkably unhelpful for both dialing and receiving calls. I can sort of work around the dialing out problem, but I never know who is calling me.

I suppose this is way down the priority list for Apple, but I'd be surprised if it were that HARD a thing to fix. Honestly, I'd feel better if someone would just say that it's a known issue and will be addressed before 5.0.
