I've tried to sync several pdf documents to iBooks, but they don't show up. Also trid to download books from the store but they never finnish downloading. The synced pdf documents in itunes (under my iPhone) is greyed out and can't do anything with them.
Any kind of help is apriciated.
I'm having the same exact issue. Over 150 books synced to my phone and NONE of them show up in iBooks! Iphone 3g with 4.0 software installed. This is ridiculous!
I'm seeing this also on my iPhone 3G. The second time I started iBooks the PDFs showed up, but after that, they didn't. The Book/PDF switch never shows up.
The books are definitely on the device as it shows the space has been taken up, just nothing shows up on the bookshelf.
I am having the same issue on my ipad. Updated I books to version 1.1 or whatever the latest one was since it said am update was available and now none of my books were showing up
Just to add to the list, same here on iPhone 3G upgraded to IOS 4. Can see that my PDFs have apparently been transfered to the iPhone but not showing up. Anything downloaded from within iBooks doesn't completly download and I'm constanstly beeing asked for my itunes password during the download.
Tried reinstalling iBooks several times but it still doesn't work on my iPhone 3G :/
Been searching all over the web for answers, but i can't find anything 😟
Guys read this!
The pdfs and books are there in the phone, and by phone i mean iPhone 3G without the S.
But the problem is, the iPhone 3G simply does not have the hardware to support the full functionality of iBooks. therefore, what most of you are experiencing is, simply put, the extreme lagginess of the phone. the phone is too slow to show all the books, for example, the guy with over 100 books. books are loaded before pdfs are loaded, therefore if you are able to see the books you will have to wait another maybe 5 mins to see the pdfs? that was what happened to me, i left the phone alone for 5 mins and everything showed up, but extremely slowly.
Conclusion: iBooks works like a snail on iPhone 3G, but for the faster iPhone 3GS or the iPad, such a problem should not exist, unless you have hundreds of books
But what if you can't even get any books from the bookstore? they come to the end of the download but nothing happens. i left it over 20 min at the end of the download but still nothing showed up. And why are they grayed out in itunes when they really should have "colour"?
I am unable to see one pdf in the ibook app on a 3G after selecting them in itunes to sync but I can view a pdf if I email myself so not sure what you base your statement on, agreed ibooks on the 3G is poor performance compared to the kindle app, its takes 10s to open then several more seconds to open a book, once the book pages have loaded its not too bad. The books|pdf select button did not appear until I viewed a pdf received in the email app then was present all the time until I deleted the pdf received via email.
I have several pdf files from itunes U that show up in the itunes sync books tab, I select these and do a sync but they do not appear in the pdf ibook app, if I use itunes add to library from the file menu then the pdf files appear when synced? Also these imports are duplicated in the itunes u folder and the itunes books folder.
This is on a 3G phone using iOS4, does not seem to be an ibooks discussion for the iphone, maybe the category will be moved standalone apps soon.
My iBooks worked fine until I tried to open a PDF. Now my iPhone 3GS does not show a bookshelf, only a black screen with the option available at the top. If I go to the store, I can see the reverse of my books as it returns to iBooks but I can't open my books or the PDF.
Absolutely the same problem as mentioned above. All set in iTunes, synched, and all are in the phone, but do not show up in iBooks app.
Too bad. I was excited about trying this as it seemed so simple and convenient. Perhaps it is a 3G problem as was mentioned in earlier posts. I hope this gets resolved at some near point.
By the way, I waited in a line of 1000 at the Apple Store beginning at 5AM today for the new phone. No iPhone 4 for me yet. Apple ran out. Good luck friends!
