Safari 5 Mouse Cursor Disappears

I recently upgraded (or downgraded) to Safari 5. However whenever I enter a page with adverts or javascript, my mouse cursor disappears completely until I leave that page.
You know, those annoying interactive ads on youtube or other websites, e.g. "shoot 3 ipods to win a free ipod" kind of thing. I can disable Javascript, but that doesn't always help.

Any Ideas why the cursor disappears? Thanks.

Well, I'm new in Apple's world, just got my first Mac on last Monday. Wednesday I updated the system (not with the Combo, the other one) as well as my Safari (I don't understand why my MBP came with Safari 4). After the updates I didn't use my computer until last night.

Last night I saw this problem. As far as I can tell, is happening only with Safari, but I will check it tonight again and try some troubleshoot (I work with IT so even the Mac Os being new for me shouldn't be so hard to give it a try).

What I believe is happening is that updating to Safari 5 is causing problem with flash files in cache. But I really can't say for sure until I try it at home.

I have a Microsoft Wireless Mouse 5000 (Bluetooth) but is happening when I'm using the trackpad as well.

Cheers,

Nice work! I'll admit, I never got around to updating the flash plug-in. Seems the auto update features of the CS5 suite, don't check or bother with the Safari flash plug-in. So to test your results, I had to download from Adobe the slightly newer version of the plug-in now at version "10.1 r53", you can find it in a folder on your Snow Leopard 10.6.4 system here: YOUR HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins. You can do a "get info" to see what version you have installed.

After running the Flash Update Installer, I QUIT Safari 5.0, restarted it, to double check the version. In Safari 5.0, under the HELP Menu, click on "Installed Plug-Ins". New version shows as "10.1 r53".

Now I tried the offending web page (link posted in two of my messages in this thread above), and that page now loads properly.

I'd say this is now SOLVED, at least for me. If anyone else tries the same procedure, it would be nice to report back your results in this thread. So it was a "Flash" issue after all, and thanks to everyone for helping to do Apple's tech support job. Power to the END USERS!

Here's what you said two days ago:
+This is a SAFARI 5.0 issue+

It's a complicated process, MacT.
When you're asked questions to try to nail things down more, I hope you understand that
all of us are trying to help solve your problem, and understand the larger issues.
I'm very happy you're all sorted now.
Every person who responded to you only wanted to help. I hope you understand that.

I was NOT going to bother responding to your last post, but since you only came back to this thread after declaring in your post dated July 4th., "I'm done." What is your point. You already have over 13,000 posts, though post counts do NOT impress me as much as QUALITY posts do. Yes, I did say it was a "SAFARI 5.0" issue, and I was RIGHT, it's the Flash Plug-in in Safari 5, not a mouse issue as you guessed early on. And since you like to quote to make some kind of point in your favor, I'll still take issue with this statement you made in the same post referenced above: "I'm asking very good troubleshooting questions. You are giving no good answers."

If you think your "troubleshooting questions" were good, then I have no reason to try and discuss it. I think if you re-read the thread, since I stuck with it, you may find I offered some trouble shooting questions that were more appropriate to the problem, and received some great feedback, so perhaps you can learn something. I know a little about about this platform, but don't need to toot my own horn and inflate my post count. I don't have as much time as you seem to have, to volunteer here, which I DO RESPECT, and maybe your other 12,999 posts were helpful, which I sincerely hope. I see you can't help yourself by once again "educating" me on how this forum works, believe me I "get it". I appreciated all the feedback from everyone, as it was a team effort, the more input the more clues, and eventually, the solution. Nothing personal, I don't know you, just your posts in this thread, so I HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND?

Guys, I don't want to fire this more than already is, but I have to agree with Tavish. When he said it was a Safari issue he was right. The problem starts when you update from Safari 4 to Safari 5 and somehow Safari goes crazy about the Adobe Flash plugin. My Adobe Flash plugin was already up to date, I just reinstalled the same version again.

So I believe it is a Safari issue.

And I just have to say this: please, stop the fight 🙂

I can't do the first. When the Reset Safari window opens, the cursor disappears entirely, so I can't select any buttons or click Reset.

Hopefully a BIG hint: For me this only happens when I open Flickr.com and watch a slide show. I've read forums elsewhere implicating Flash. If Flash is used for Flickr slide shows, others having this problem should confirm if it occurs after they land on sites that use Flash.

I just experienced this same issue, for the first time, while I had a window open, on the CBS website, watching an episode of NCIS. This manifested itself, when I opened a new window, to do something, in the newly opened window, while the show NCIS was playing in the open window underneath.

Bringing up a new window, in order to search this issue, I was able to experience this disappearing cursor on multiple occasions, during the "show".

When finished with watching the NCIS episode, leaving the CBS website, the disappearing cursor issue also stopped.

Running MAC OS/X 10.6.8, Safari Version 5.1.2 (6534.52.7), all updates current as of this date, Macbook Pro 13".
