Billion BiPAC 5200N blocking LAN traffic

g'day,

we have just switched routers: from a netgear DG834G to a Billion BiPAC 5200N RC and are experiencing the following problem...

despite WAN (internet & DNS) working properly we can no longer connect to our self-hosted mac 10.5.8 mail server from the LAN clients. strangely enough external connections via TELNET work just fine – thus we assume it is not the server setup as everything worked just fine on the DG834G (except that it was too old and started dropping out too often).

our setup: LAN connects via an unmanaged switch to the server and the server itself connects directly to the router; the BiPAC 5200N RC is configured with a DMZ host (our internal mail & file server), NAT is enabled (which directs traffic to our server), FIREWALL & DHCP on router are also both disabled. additionally, we have flushed the DNS cache on the server - also DNS lookups for our mail server from LAN resolve just well.

surely this should work - any help or tips appreciated.
