So i updated iTunes to the latest and updated my 3gs to iOS4, i tried to sync some music and all i get is crash after crash.

I have tried:
1) Uninstalling iTunes and all apple software, reboot, reinstall, reboot.

2) Replacing the 2 .dll's (libeay32.dll, and ssleay32.dll) in the c:\windows\system32 and the syswow64 folder, the dll's did not exist to begin with.

3) Rebooted several times.

4) Checked to make sure i have no podcasts to sync.

5) Called apple support through my appcare overpriced plan.

6) DeAuthorized and Authorized under iTunes>store.

7) Enabled and disabled Genius .

8) Only synced 1 music folder, then 3 successfully then a few more and it then crashes so that's why i think it has something to do with the music. Almost as if it takes a while to complete a sync it kills iTunes.

9) Tried a different USB Cable.

10) Tried a different powered USB hub and directly hoooking it to my computer.

11) Syncing without music (which works) then re-enabling sync of music and it crashes again.

I am running Windows 7 64bit
4 GB Ram
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ 3.00 GHz Processor

I've got a similar issue. I've upgraded my 3GS to iOS4 and since then it crashed every time it synched. I set the options in iTunes to "Manually manage music and videos" and it completed synching.

So what can I do to synch my music and videos?

I'm having the exact same issue as you. Just started two days ago when I updated Itunes for the OS4 update on my Iphone. After the update everything seemed fine then I decided to add some new CD's to my library and sync my Ipod. Within a few minutes Itunes crashes. I've tried the same steps as you except that I tried two separate Ipods with the same issue. During the troubleshooting process I reset my Ipod hoping that would help, sadly no difference during the sync and now my Ipod has no music.

Here is a copy of my error code

I've tried at this point the following:

    1. Two separate Ipods
    2. Replaced the sync cable
    3. Uninstalled then re-installed Itunes and Quicktime
    4. Uninstalled TuneUp, "thought it a possible culprit"
    5. Tried a different USB port on the system

So at this point, I need help.

    Thanks,

It's been a while in using Windows for me, but can you try syncing from Safe Mode.
I'm not sure if it's possible, but if it is it may indicate if you have a conflict going on somewhere when using your PC normally.

Another thought, is to check that the apple mobile services are running before you sync.

Onyxius, In your first post, you said that you had to replace a couple of .dll files. Is that normal after installing onto Windows 7. It would indicate to me that install is corrupt if not all .dll were installed correctly.

I'm in the same boat, upgraded to iOS4 two days ago and iPhone is not syncing properly. Goes through the whole sync process, but does not update calendar, contracts, and or music. Ran diagnostics and said everything was working properly - NOT.

    thx

I put the 2 .dll files in per another suggested fix from this forum, mine didn't have those 2 .dll's to begin with.

Just had a look as some of the post with the .dll replacements.
A lot of them were talking about email not syncing, but yours sounds a little different as it the music this time.

Maybe you need to ask kisuke3 about the issue as he seems to be the one on top of the mail sync issue.

love paying a lot of money for something that doesn't work right, thanks apple

Why, how much did you pay for iTunes, I have always though that it was a free download.
By your posts, its iTunes that is corrupt on you computer seeing you are missing .dll files, not the phone.

200 dollars for this iPhone 4 and 300 for the 3gs. That's why i said that doesn't work right. You need iTunes to sync, if you cant sync anything with your phone then you can't back it up either if all iTunes does is crash when you sync.

    Onyxius

From what I can tell, you still need to fix iTunes. Once you have that fixed, then it will remain to see if you have issues with your phone hardware.

    suggested fixes.
Blow away everything apple from your computer and start again with a fresh install, maybe using something like CCleaner to find dlls and registry files that are left over.
Yes I agree that you have done this, but just maybe there is something left and or conflicting on you PC causing an issue when you re-install

This site http://www.ehow.com/how5610253uninstall-reinstall-itunes-windows.html details how to remove iTunes from windows 7, including the order of the programs that you need to do it correctly

+Remove iTunes: (*If at any time your computer wants you to restart hit "no") In your program list, locate the (6) components and remove them in this order: iTunes, Quicktime, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour, and Apple Application Services (iTunes 9)+

    or

Contact kisuke3 on these discussion pages who posted the .dll changes that you have attempted, as this user may be able to help you out.

    or

Look closely at the iTunes and iTunes for windows discussion areas. The iphone 3GS discussion area is not the right place to get your solution.

Let me know how you go

Thanks for the info. I uninstalled itunes the way the website said to. I also used ccleaner to clean things up and regcleaner to get all .dll's and lingering itunes/apple software off my computer. This did not help, i get to sync 300 songs and it crashed again. I'll get ahold of kisuke3 and see what he says as well.

    Thanks
