iOS 4.0 didn't change anything

I just upgraded my 3rd gen 32GB Touch to version 4.0. The upgrade took almost an hour to download and install. Seemed to go smoothly, restarting, etc. It syncs fine and works fine however it looks exactly the same. I can find no changes at all in the UI, functions, etc. The only indication that it's 4.0 is in the settings -> general -> about. The version says 4.0. I just bought it about 6 weeks ago so I'm pretty sure it's a 3rd generation. The model number is MC008LL which Google searches seem to indicate is a 3rd gen iPod Touch.

Any ideas what gives?

Mac OS X (10.5.8)

I'm not sure what you are expecting to see. Perhaps the new User Guide will help:
