iPhone 4 - camera is crashing constantly

Try resetting your iPhone by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

i have EXACTLY this issue

i've even tried a full reset of the phone (i.e. wipe all content and restore defaults)

still the camera app freezes about a second after you open it (and then the phone reboots!) - i can only think that the autofocus in the camera module is broken, and when the app cant get it to respond correctly, it crashes.

I guess i will have to return my 20 minutes old phone.

have you tried setting it up as a new phone and then use the camera to eliminate the possibility that something is wrong with the backup file?

i did a total reset of the phone.. then BEFORE restoring from backup.. i.e. with the phone simply activated through itunes and NOTHING else (no restor from backup - no installation of apps - no settings, no anythign!) - the camera app causes the iphone to reboot everytime it is opened

It might be best to talk with Apple. They may need to replace it if all of the steps you have tried still isn't getting the camera to work.

i am currently trying re-flashing O4 onto my phone (i.e. making itunes download OS4 for the iphone 4) as a last ditch effort to see if it really is a hardware fault

I have the same issue when I go into camera app and it blinks the box in the center of the screen, than the screen freezes than phone reboots. I restored to original firmware thinking it was because I restored from my back up 3G iPhone. No success either way. Tried to slide from camera to video and the phone froze up. Could not get it off video. I had camera app in a folder but don't know if that had anything to do with it.

SAME ISSUE!! lens wont even open on the camera app, its just stuck closed! 😟 anyone any ideas!? ive restored 4 times now...

i took it into O2, they just said yeah , its faulty, we'll replace it (when we get stock...)

I am having these issues as well. Opening the camera either freezes at the "aperature" animation or freezes before attempting to take a picture.

Mine does the same thing. It seems to be mostly when switching from front to back or switching to video. It usually clears after a little while and works again. Any new Ideas? I am going to try to restore again tonight.
