I work in a hospital. The thick walls already give me only 1 to 2 bars of reception. Now if I even hold the phone securely in my hand I lose the caller as the signal drops to NOTHING. I'm really upset about this. $200 phone with $90/month talk, data, text... truly a luxury and truly a huge expense. Loved my 2g phone... very disappointed in this one. I've told all my friends that want to get the iphone 4 about my problems... they are now reconsidering apple iphone and instead looking into android based phones. Apple is bound to lose big if they don't fix it fast and free.

If you are unhappy with your phone, return it, that's why Apple has a return policy. No product will make everyone happy.

Complaining here may be cathartic, but it won't solve anything.

As the video above shows, the over one year-old iPhone 3 GS suffers the same signal issue, so you'd best look at a different brand of phone if you're experiencing this issue - that's the bottom line here.

    its no where this bad

I have usually used the iphone without cover case because I like the feeling of the touched iphone itself.

But, when I got the iPhone 4, I was so upset when I found the issue( dropped signal).
I do not like to buy case cover in order to resolve the iPhone 4 issue because of that. I believe Apple must provide something to resolve the iphone 4.

I do not like that iphone 4 dropped the signal.

Mitigate the damage now with good crisis management. Apple, you have a crisis here. Can you only imagine the late night comics with an iPhone you can't hold?

2 minutes after i bought the iphone4 today at 3:15 i receice a call and it dropped 3 times. Im not fond of att and love apple products but have to say its an apple related issue weither its hardware or software I don't know. Just tested the bar reception issue. It's true. With an old rubber case it didn't drop bars but does when it's just my hands.

I don't know if a bumper would be the solution of this reception-issue.
Because I have used a silicon-case for the iPhone4 and I have still the problem, that the reception drops from full 3G to Edge.

And I have noticed, that the internet-connection speed really looses speed. If the iPhone4 looses reception by only holding the deviced in your own hands - it really looses half of its speed. So it isnt't a problem of only an incorrect reception-indication.

By the way: The problem does not appear if you hold your iPhone in the landscape-mode.

I hope that Apple takes a firm stand, please!!

Yep, I did too. I proposed the free bumpers on a different but similar thread, and my post was removed by Apple Admin because of "Non-constructive rants or complaints"--no kidding. The censors at Apple must be out in full force so everyone who proposes free bumpers, watch what you say around here! Lol

I haven't been able to replicate this problem +at all+. No dropped calls, no drop in bars/signal, no matter how much I try to wrap my hand around the various gaps I can't replicate it.

So far reception has been better than my 3GS...

I am having the dropped signal issue, and it is nothing subtle - it drops from 5 bars to 0 bars when I rest the left corner on my left palm. This position is natural if you are holding the phone for browsing and viewing and such. This never happened with my 3GS or original iPhone.

I was skeptical when I first read about the problem, given all of the Apple haters out there. But this really is a major flaw. I would advise others not to get this phone until Apple properly addresses the issue. I sincerely hope that Apple comes up with a better response than "hold it differently". If not, mine is going back. Shame too, because the phone is drop dead gorgeous.

Just wanted to add that this is not just a bug with the UI. When my signal drops to 0, I cannot make a call nor can I browse the Internet.

Same here, my experience has been great, especially in congested NY

I too have recreated the issue with my new iPhone4. I am sure that sooner than later Apple will deal with this issue. In my case Apple has 29 days to correct the issue with either a recall (least likely) or free bumper (most likely). After that it gets returned to the store and either replaced with a different brand (most likely) or I'll fall back on my iPhone 3G till they get it corrected (least likely).

how Can I contact Apple about my pre-order? please give an email, I couldn't find it on the website.
I pre-ordered the Phone and I'm afraid of this now.
My delivery is on 14th of July, and I'm most afraid of the screen cause it has no solution.
