I seem to be having the same problems as others in not being able to see the option for Facetime when making a call. But when i go into Settings to turn on Facetime, it's already on and says "Waiting for Activation" underneath the Facetime option. Anyone else having the same issue? I cant seem to connect to any Facetime call at all. Help!!!
you need to be getting the wifi signal, showing the wifi icon instead of the 3G icon will indicate your currently using wifi. thats the only way it will work.
i'm having the same issue and I'm on WiFi, not using 3G at this time. I'm not given the option to make a Facetime call even though the option is on in my settings.
yes, already tried it. And, the person actually doesn't need to be on an iPhone4 for the option to be there. I saw on someone else's phone today where the option was there with someone not on an iPhone4.
Facetime will not work, if you contacts do not have iPhone 4 that is probally why it is not working for you, or if you ported you number from a different carrier then that is another issue since iPhones do not recognize ported numbers
I just went into Settings and turned Facetime off and then back on again, and it seems eto have worked. I now have the option for Facetime when making a call, and it's also showing up now as an option when i go into my contacts.
It still says "Waiting for Activation" in the settings which i have no idea about though...
I understand that it won't work on non-iphone4. But it still shows as an option. I had AT&T prior to this phone, iPhone 2G, and I've turned facetime on and off several times to no solution. Do people who know the ins and outs check these forums, ie Apple tech service? or is it just the general public?
okay, just found on another forum that the issue was MMS. My MMS wasn't activated when I switched over, not really sure why. I called AT&T and had MMS added to my account and I'm set on facetime now.
To use FaceTime your phone must be in a wi-fi network. The phone is able to be in a wi-fi network and a 3G network simultaneously -but you'll need to see the wi-fi signal showing at the top of the phone. If it says 3G then you're not actually logged in to a wi-fi network. Going into a wi-fi zone doesn't take you out of 3G -the phone uses the fastest data connection it can find, while making calls via the traditional signal.
If both parties have an iPhone 4 and are in a wi-fi network, then FaceTime works pretty well. I had a bit of trouble with it this afternoon, because one of us was in a busy (slowed down) network. The result was a couple of video freezes that cleared themselves up after a few seconds.
Found out the problem. For me I was upgrading from a 1st gen iPhone. It had 200 text messages included. The new iPhone plans do not come with text messaging and they never asked about it when I called to order the upgrade. I called AT&T, they added text messaging and now the "waiting for activation went away". They said that this has happened to people that upgraded from 3g and 3GS phones. I guess something in the transfer between the plans
