Let us know how the Genius Bar appointment goes. I'm guessing they will replace it. I think I misunderstood your previous post. I thought you meant you hung up on them out of frustration. Then it hit me: you were on the iPhone and your face did the hangin' up...LOL!!!!! Classic.

Has anyone tried to get theirs replaced? I don't want to waste my time to find out that all the phones can't sense my face.

I had a call with them, they wanted me to restore to factory settings and I did, which fixed the issue (the previous tip of just resetting settings hadn't worked for me).

Right now, I'm restoring from my backup to see if it comes back.

Ok, that seemed to have fixed it. In iTunes, I did a restore to factory settings, then did a restore from my backup, and so far I haven't had any issues.

I tried restoring as a new iPhone last night but it was back to acting wonky today. I hope it fixes your problem better than it did mine.

I called tech support today spoke with a level 1 and level 2 rep they have not heard of any complaints about this issue so I told them that they have now and told them about this discussion. level 2 said that they will replace the phone so I made a trip to the apple store and they replaced it and I'm having the same problem. So switching out the phone was a waste of time.

Count me in for having this same problem. Like others, I know I'm not adding anything helpful, but I figure the more of us that complain, the faster Apple will step up and fix what I think all of us consider a HUGE problem. It's nearly impossible to use this phone as a phone when it's acting like this.

I noticed the problem mainly by the call going on speakerphone when I am adjusting the phone on my ear. I also dropped more calls on my iPhone 4 in 2 days than I did on my previous iPhone (2G) in two years probably. I am hopeful this is a software problem and not a hardware one.

After 7 more involuntary cases where my ear and cheek hung up, muted, put people on speakerphone, made conference calls and went back to the home screen to open apps, I did the 'Reset All Settings' late last night.

No difference whatsoever; just lost 3 more calls today by moving them to speakerphone and muting then yet again. This device is useless to me if it doesn't have a phone that can be used normally. I am now on hold with AT&T to reactivate my trusty old 3GS.

If no fix in 30 days, I will have to return it to cancel my AT&T contract extension. Bitterly disappointed.

Here is what I did and it seemed to solve the problem. I went into settings, general, reset, and reset network settings. I have no idea why but this fixed it for me.

Had the prob but completely due to the magnet in the cover. As soon as out of the cover, no issue.
    Same for you?

    Same issue. Very frustrating.
