Q: iphone 4 Mail messages (no sender) no subject

My inbox has four mysterious messages that I can't delete. They all say

(No Sender)
(No Subject)
This message has no content

Date: 12-31-69

can't open or delete any of them. These messages are not on my mobileme cloud.

Thanks for the help. Chad

I have had this problem and today got a series of 4 "no sender" messages that I cannot delete. Initially they are in the unread message count but eventually they disappear only to come back a few hours later. Very frustrating - I hope they fix it soon. Slightly odd in that it happens on my iPhone 4 but I have another 3GS updated with iOS4 and the problem does not occur.

Refresh inbox once, go "back" to main mailbox menu and refresh a few times (arrow, bottom left) then go back into inbox and they re-appear for me.

Same here. Frustrating. Seems almost like an IMAP sync problem. (I am using IMAP, not sure about otters.)

This worked for me! Not sure if it only solved the problem temporarily, but it did wipe out the unread "no sender" emails from 1969.

I have the same issue since moving to iOS4 on my iPhone 3GS. I am a Mobileme subscriber as well. When i check the inbox following a new email notification, there will be a 'no sender' message, which won't open.

As someone suggested, going back to 'sent' folder and back again to inbox 'converts' the 'no sender' mail to a new, unread mail.

Hope Apple fixes this issue soon.

same problem here, phantom emails come and go, when I check my gmail account on a normal pc, it seems fine with no unread mails, but on my phone it shows these phantom emails. Been happening since i upgraded to iOS 4, it goes away for a little while, but always comes back, apple needs to sort out a permanent fix instead of everyone doing weird temporary fixes. Come on apple, it's really annoying!

Yeah, that worked for me. Let's see if it "sticks."

Same problem here for every new mail (mobileme account).
I have to switch to account overview, switch to a different folder (eg. sent items, trash) and switch back to inbox.
    Frustrating for every new mail.

This problem reared its ugly head just today on my iPhone 4. The first email I received was dated 12/31/1969, no sender, no subject, and deleting it was not an option. I then received a 2nd email with the same characters. Once I turned off the phone and then turned it on, those emails disappeared. Annoying but resolved temporarily I imagine.

    Same issue:

Problems - "blank" emails that can't be deleted and Inbox that "disappears"

Occurring on my iPhone 4 and my wife's 3G, both of us using IMAP from 1and1

Power cycle clears the issue, but it's happening once or twice a day since iOS 4 release, and it's a real pain in the a**!!

My 3GS with 4.0 firmware is doing the same to my Gmail account.

I have a theory that it might be new emails coming in that appear as the "No Subject/Sender" emails briefly. (Mine dates to 1970)

I received a "real" email on my computer and then checked on my iphone and the "No Subject/Sender" email appeared. I then went to All Mail and no new emails came in.
Then back to my inbox and the "No Subject/Sender" email had gone and the "real" email I had received on my computer appeared.

I don't think it is anything serious or damaging, just a bug that needs fixing.

I actually just had this NO Sender email problems myself. I actually ended up solving it for myself. I went to Settings and deleted my Email account from the phone. Turned off my Iphone, turned it back on, and just added my account again. It has been 2 weeks and I have not received any more "NO Sender - No Subject" emails since. Try that and see if that works for you all. Hope this helps!!

I have had this problem with the iPhone4 since I got it last week. I went to the Apple Store yesterday and the woman who worked with me said she hadn't seen anyone with this problem yet. She restored the phone and it seemed to fix it temporarily but this morning I had a ton of the mysterious "No Sender" emails in my inbox again. I restarted and it and that does fix it temporarily but only a matter of time before they come back.

    Argh! So annoying.
