World of Warcraft freeze/crash during gameplay

I just bought a new 13" macbook pro for gaming a few months back, but every other time i play World of Warcraft, the game becomes completely unresponsive and the screen freezes up completely, and i'm unable to close the game, etc, and am forced to hard shutdown the computer.

Has this happened to anyone else for WoW or any other games? Trying to determine the root cause to help avoid an upcoming act of macbook defenestration.

I captured some of the logging this time around, from approximately the time the crash occurred, hoping someone may be able to help troubleshoot why this is plaguing me. Not sure if i captured the correct logs, but any help is greatly appreciated.

With my Mac Book Pro 13" I had to download SMC Fan Control, i set the fan speed at 6000
and the temp does not get too much over 158F during game play.

i dont play wow alot, but when i do play it with out SMC control... the CPU gets to 179F
that is melt down temps. look up the thermal specs on intel's website for that processor.

i really hate how apple control fan speeds, they would rather melt hardware then turn some fan speed up.

I did some tests on 10.6.4 with or without SMC and checking the CPU temperature. I don't think that's related (of course it can be another problem than the one the original poster have). It crashes at 56°C (~133°F) without SMC and at 46°C (115°F) with it.
The crashes happens usually when I switch from an application to another while many are opened (videos and games).
Maybe related to the new graphic drivers.

I viewed this thread yesterday and decided to try the SMC setting at 6000rpms on my macbookpro 17" had zero issues with FPS or Bandwidth dropout and wow did not freeze at all. however if the problem persists i will downgrade to 10.6.3, does anyone know an easy way to find or do the downgrade using time machine or other procedure for downgrading? Like i said had one full night of gaming without having to relog in to play ideas suggestions would be great.

I have another data point for this. I have a *brand new* MBP 15" w/ GeForce GT 330M 512 mb. I was playing an arena game tonight and something like what's described above: the screen froze up, there seemed to be a band that moved slowly over the screen, and then I got the kernel panic message that said I needed to restart the system. Like I said, this is pretty much: new laptop out of the box, install software update, install wow, crash. Good times.

But here's the really strange bit. About a week and a half I finally updated my Mac Pro from Leopard to Snow Leopard. I don't have anything close to the same video card on that machine (it's an ATI Radeon of some flavor), but I've experienced the exact same kind of crash behavior on that machine. Screen freezes up (again, while playing WoW), horizontal band moving from top to bottom, kernel panic. I know it's not hardware problems, as I've been able to run WoW on the same Mac Pro under a boot camped Windows 7 for many hours without any problem whatsoever.

Anyone have any ideas? Is the interim fix to revert to 10.6.3? Is that even possible to do with a relative amount of ease?

Let's raise a stink.

Hello all,

Seems that I too am getting this "csconfigdotmaccert" prompt after I log in after startup. It started soon after I reconfigured my keychain and mail account on my new mac mini. Lately, I notice that if I don't enter the password at the prompt and leave it up and come back to it later, nothing happens after entering the password. It feels like a crash. I can't get access to the finder or other apps and force quit doesn't work. Although the mouse works but when I mouse over the finder menu, I get a beach ball. I have to do a hard restart to get my machine going again. This is happening every day now. There has to be a reason and a solution for this. Anyone game?

I've tried playing Fallout 3 through Wine port and I got the freezing issues all the time so I deleted it. I figured it was because the game was not officially ported for the mac. So while deciding what other games to try I was playing Runescape (yeah I know old school), but after about an hour of playing it froze up and the screen flashes and flickers. Some times the game (Fallout 3 or Runescape) shows weird polygons and they all dance around the screen. I will say I think it could be a couple of things overheating or graphic card issues. The thing is I have played through Half life 2 and Portal with no problems, it could be that these two games are meant to be played on a mac though. The version update of the OS could be faulty as well, I should know my optical drive was fried by a mac update. Anyway, I hope any of this information could be helpful in the near future as I would love to enjoy my mac.

that's plain wrong. 179F is a high, but possible temperature. as long as your fan is running at 6000rpm by that time, that's ok and the temp will not go any higher than that. Apple set up the fans, you really think they would set it up in a way that harms your MB?

I wouldn't mess with the fans, but that's just my opinion. I did 5 hour gaming sessions on my 13'' MB. they ran hot but besides that no problems whatsoever.

Mack you are wrong and you are confusing people.

179F is not a "melt down temp" for a Intel Core 2 Duo 2.26 cpu.

Think you are right? Then post a link to intel's website. If you "feel" it is too warm that is fine, if your "opinion" is that the MacBook doesnt manage temperatures good enough, thats fine. But you came right out and said that 179F is a melt down temp and you could support that statement by facts on intel's website. Waiting.................
