Failed DVD burning (error code 0x8002006D)

So my apple care runs out next month and i'm trying to make sure everyting is kosher.

I burned a dvd a month ago and it worked fine, but today, i tried it and i got this error (error code 0x8002006D). i tried several times and its all i got. It happened just as the burn was about to begin. i tried it with several different kinds and sizes of files.

I'm using HP dvd-r 8x disks. i also tried it w/ TDK dvd-r 8x.
i'm burning a regular cd right now, so that works.
i can watch dvds.

i had a similar problem back under 10.3.7 and i took it into an apple store. they hooked it up to an external drive and it worked. their advice was to upgrade to 10.3.9. right now i'm running 10.4.2. i'd like to upgrade to 10.4.3 but it seems digidesign (who is the bane of my upgraded existence)has not yet officially made it compatible...so who knows.

any one ever gotten this error? anyone ever fixed it? ideas? is hard drive space an issue in tiger as it was in panther?

Hello Brett,
Here's an off-beat suggestion. Try cleaning your system cache. Here's a link to Onyx (Version 1.6.5 for Tiger). Install it and run 'automation'. It will clean the system and user caches as well as running permissions repair. Give it a go before you contemplate replacing your drive.

You can also try running a cleaner disc and try force quitting Finder.

I, too, am experiencing this error code (0x8002006D) when burning CDs or DVDs from the finder. I've tried it with different kinds of files and sizes as well. I am able to burn to a CD from iTunes and a DVD from iDVD with no problems, but get the error code 0x8002006D when trying to burn Microsoft Word/Excel files from the finder (trying to backup files from a masters class). I have a PowerBook G4 (purchased Oct. 2005), running OS 10.4.2 and the following:
Processor 1.67GHz PowerPC G4 w/ 128MB VR
Memory 2GB DDR333 SDRAM - 2x1GB SO-D
Hard Drive 100GB Ultra ATA drive @ 5400
Optical Drive 8x SuperDrive (DVD+/-RW/CD-RW)
I've been using Memorex CD-R, 700MB, 1X-16X multi-speed CDs and HP DVD+RW, 4X, 4.7 GB data DVDs.

Again, no problems using these CDs and DVDs when burning from iTunes and iDVD, but get the error code when burning from the finder.
I'm out of things to try. Any other suggestions?

thats really curious - the posts warning about using 8x media. i rememmber when apple released the firmware patch to fix some burners but i thought that it was fixed now. is there really such an issue that we need to be cautious what we put in our drives?

eventually, apple replaced it. along with my screen and half the case of my mac. actually, i'm not totally certain they didn't just replace it all w/ a refurb. still, pretty cool. i didn't even complain about the screen (which had the marks generated by the keyboard impression). worth complaining about if anyone thinks their screen is less than perfect after 3 years.

for the record though, i haven't been burning in the finder much. only in idvd. i will run onyx (great tool) and i have switched to good media. still though, almost all i see is rated at 8x...
