Mine has done it ohhhh probably 20 times since I activated it at 5pm and as I type this it has now done it AGAIN!! GRRRRR this is the ONLY thing ******* me off about my new iPhone!! Anyone have any suggestions? I have never came across this issue & I REALLY DONT want to try to go into Apple tomorrow since it is the "official" release!!

im trying a restore now, ill tell u guys how it goes for me
ok, well i cant even restore it, because i need a simcard inside, and its reading as no sim. its stuck on connect itunes >.>
I'm having the same problem here in NY with AT&T. At first it was saying invalid SIM. This was fixed by just rebooting and now periodically it say No SIM Intalled.
Just try turning off and on again.
I wouldn't have bothered anyway mate, see my last post on first page. Still happening to me after restore.
I'm gonna wait to see how it goes after tonight when it'll be 24 hours since I registered microsim. I have a genius booking Sat evening on standby.

It's odd why it is only affecting some. Possible faulty batch of iPhone? Or networks around the globe having the same issues? Hmm... latter seems less likely
Its because the micro sim is loose in the tray...
Its been happening to me a lot so i selotaped my micro sim tight to the tray and it hasnt happened for a while.
I will be requesting a new micro sim tomorrow and i think mine is a bit loose.
Hope this helps.

I'm not so sure that is the cause. Why? You could easily replicate the fault by shaking the handset if that was the reason, but you can't replicate it, it's random. Secondly, how come a power cycle fixes it? Surely if it's loss to make the error, it'll still be lose after power cycle, but cycling fixes it.
I used to fix the issue by shaking my phone...
Shake the phone and the sim will sit back in the tray. then go into airplane mode and come back out...
The No SIM error is because it cant find the sim... take your sim out and it will give the same error.
A power cycle is what people might think is fixing their problem but all they are doing is refreshing the network search and the slightest movement make have places the sim back in the tray...

I don't believe its that. My phone was sat still on my desk when i saw the no sim flash up.
I've take the sim out over 5 times with no reponse and reset the phone.

So you're saying the slightest movement can fix the problem, but you cannot replicate the fault by making a slight movement!?
Doesn't make any sense. If it were an issue of being too lose in tray, I'd be able to shake the phone and get the fault. I can't no matter how vigorously I shake it.
It seems to have more to do with when my handset moves into a position where it gets little to zero reception I.e in my pocket and instead of saying no service it thinks there is no sim.

COuld it be that the sim is not continously looked for by the phone? Dunno..just a guess.
It's something like that. Or it's something to do with our microsims and the networks. Perhaps it'll settle down after the 24hrs since activating sim. If it's still happening tomorrow I'll be off to Apple Store.
Ok so I have been having the same issue.
Turning the airplane mode on then off seems to help.
This avoids having to do a restart and/or removal of the sim card.
I had my sim card replaced 4 times so something tells me this is not a sim card issue.
I also don't thinks its a sim card tray issue. Some people thought the sim card was not making contact with the phone b/c of the tray. If this was the case then the above airplane trick would not work.
I would also suggest not reverting the iphone back to it's default since many people say that does not clear up the issue.
Unfortunately i have spoken with both ATT and Apple and they are pinning the blame on each other.
I think it's firmware or software issue.
I'm pretty sure this will get resolved but the question is when.

I have been on the phone with orange since yesterday regarding this issue. Being a new customer I realised I had to wait for me to be registered blah blah on their servers. Today I was expecting the issue to be resolved. My latest conversation I got through tech support level 2. I was told they are currently investigating the issue with regards to no sim card installed error message.
They are trying to work out if it is a network or sim card issue. They did not have a turn around time for this either and have said they will reimburse customers for the days they have been unable to use their phone. They have also been told not to issue new sim cards to customers while they try work out the problem.
I bought this on contract with Orange and if it takes them too long I reckon they should honour people wanting to cancel contracts. As I do.

Mine is still doing this after 3 days. I have cleaned the sim contacts completely with contact cleaner. I've had to reseat, restart, or go in and out of airplane mode so much I'm sick of it.
The longest I've gone without a problem is 6 hours, and thats probably because I wasn't touching the phone.
My sim is not cut, it is the original that came with the phone.
I am very dissappointed after a 2 year love affair with my 3G.
