Is anyone else having issues with the iPhone 4 all of a sudden telling you that there is "no SIM card installed"? Mine has done it ohhhh probably 20 times since I activated it at 5pm and as I type this it has now done it AGAIN!! GRRRRR this is the ONLY thing ******* me off about my new iPhone!! Anyone have any suggestions? I have never came across this issue & I REALLY DONT want to try to go into Apple tomorrow since it is the "official" release!!
Having a similar issue with my Orange UK SIM, every hour or so today I've had the no SIM message and have either had to restart or eject the SIM and reenter.
Hoping it's a teething problem that will go away.
I'm using an iPad microsim from the Apple store that orange transferred my number on to
I went and got a new SIM card & that helped for ohhhh about 2hrs so then I said forget it and went to Apple, Needless to say I left there with a whole new phone. I think that it is something with the SIM card slot being slightly too big. But Apple was AWESOME and I went in and was out of there in about 20 min. I DIDNT have to wait in that line or anything!!! Good luck to all! My iPhone is now working GREAT!
Same here - twice today. I had to restart the phone to fix it. The second time it happened I removed the SIM card and re-inserted it in the hopes that it was a bad connection. That was a few hours ago.
Same problem here. During the day it would pop up that message a few minutes after being on. If I shut the phone off and back on it would always recognize the sim for a little while and then that message would pop up. It seemed like it might be heat/humidity related as it was happening all the time when I was outside during the day (90+ today in SC), but since I've been back indoors it hasn't come up again.
I've got the same issue... whenever it says "No SIM" on mine, I just turn Airplane mode on/off and it solves it... temporarily. That is unacceptable however, and I hope this gets resolved soon.
I've been thinking about this today, and I'm certain its a software fault. Why?
If it were a SIM fault, surely it would stay faulty, even after a power cycle?
If it were a hardware fault, surely it would stay faulty, even after a power cycle?
Fact is, a power cycle fixes the problem. If the SIM was lose in the tray for example, why when power cycling, does it fix it? If it was lose when it happened, surely its lose after the power cycle, if you haven't moved the iPhone.
It has to be something software related. I've searched Google, and some of the results that appear, show it happening to iPhone older generation models too. Some suggested a restore in iTunes sorts it out. I'm not so sure. Anyone tried a restore? Did it fix the problem? I have some time today so will give it a go. Maybe a restore will fix the problem. Why? Because I setup my iPhone 4 with a butchered original sim card from O2, chopped down to microsim size, until my microsim became active. Maybe the software doesn't like the fact that the sim I am now using, is different to the one I set the iPhone 4 up with. I'll report back if this works.
Has anyone made a Genius appointment and been seen? Curious to hear what Apple say. Will make a reservation myself I think.
I'm experiencing the same issue with my iPhone 4 on Vodafone UK.
I agree with cflowers81 in thinking it is a software issue and hoping that Apple will come out with a fix rather sharpish as it's quite irritating. A good test if anybody can do it would be to use the micro-Sim in the adaptor that o2 sent out to everyone and try it in a different phone to see if this problem happens. That will define whether it is a sim/phone problem..
Those above who are having this problem, can you answer yes or no to the following question:
Did you setup your iPhone 4 through iTunes, with a different SIM i.e. a cut down MiniSIM until your MicroSIM became active, then swapped out the cut down MiniSIM to the MicroSIM at a later date?
Well, I've restored. And initial results look promising, unfortunately or fortunately, however you look at it. Unfortunate have to restore to fix the problem. As long as I only have to do it once. FYI I restored and setup as a new phone. Didn't restore a backup.
Anyway, so far so good. Did a few running around, up and down the stairs, shaking it about, using it in different positions lol, and the error hasn't popped up just yet.
I'll give it a few hours and see how it goes before I 100% confirm it fixed the problem for me.
This has happened to me as well.
I'm on Orange. Phoned them up and they have said they're getting loads of calls about it. Because Its not been 24 hours since I registered my sim, I have to call back at 6.30pm before they can take it further.
They suspect it might be an issue at their end.
I'll update you later when I call them back.
