Iphone 3G slow after update to IOS4

i cant even send pictures to anyone anymore. any have the same problem?

I hear about os 4.0.1 coming up next week.
Hope they fix all the problems. Yesterday i upgrade my wife's 3g and now she want to kill me.

i'm tryng factory restore and hard reset now.

Problem solved.

As someone wrote before:

First a make a backup then restore (after this, itunes ask if i want to restore from backup).

Now my wife's 3g work as usual.

It's very frustrating that so few people actually seem to read these threads. Instead of posting "me, too" after "me, too" reply, you would know that completing a double hard reset fixes the problem.

After conducting two hard resets of my 3G, the only sluggishness I experienced was when I activated the phone from standby. There would be a delay and occasionally the pass code lock keyboard wouldn't appear unless I went back into standby and woke the phone again.

This problem was caused by memory use. The new OS takes up significantly more memory than the OS 3. My 8GB phone was maxed out after the upgrade. I went into iTunes and deleted about 1GB of songs to provide the OS with some headroom.

The phone is now working flawlessly. My wifi kicks in after standby much faster than before. Swiping through screens of apps is much snappier than with 3.1.3. The folders have allowed me to consolidate seven or eight screens worth of apps down to two pages (one with my frequently used apps, and one with folders containing all the rest). I can live without digital camera zoom; digital zoom always looks terrible.

I too was frustrated immediately after installing the new OS. But your upgrade isn't finished after the installation. Do a double hard reset of the phone and carve out a little free memory. If this still doesn't work, you have issues with your phone or installation unrelated to iOS 4.

I shouldn't have installed the upgrade. The 3G can't handle it.

Glad my contract is up next month so I can move to Sprint and android. I want a bigger screen!

I am sorry to disappoint you David, but double and even triple hard reset do not solve the problem of slower chip and lack of RAM. Whatever you do, just try using iPod and Safari and feel the difference. Good lck with iOS4 on 3G.

Did an upgrade to iOS4 and phone was slow as a dog. Then did a restore to factory settings. Slight improvement but still - opening the SMS app takes about 5 seconds. The phone is sluggish when trying to answer a phone call. Opening certain apps now takes forever (Airshare, DocsToGo). DocsToGo was always somewhat sluggish, Airshare was not.

I have 6GB free on a 16GB iPhone and I have around 20 apps installed. I tested the phone before installing any additional apps on it - it was already sluggish.

Basically - Apple took a perfectly good phone and turned it into a snail.

yesssss!!! all of us have the same problem. Is apple listening??????

I'm not having any issues with this update. My 3g updated just fine the first time. I backed up everything and synced before the update process because I had issues in the past with other updates and learned that this would help. Usually if you sync a couple of time more the problem will go away.

It's great to hear that you are not having problems with the upgrade. What's not so great to hear is that you are assuming that because the hard resets worked for you, that they work for everyone. They don't.

I have tried hard resets, and it didn't fix the slow downs I have after installing OS4, so *hard resets are not a definitive fix*.

No you arent reading, even after doing double hard resets 3 times now it is still sluggish, I mean its like dropping back down to dial up after having dsl/cable for a connection type noticeable. Over 10 seconds to load IMs? 15 to load the iPod? My phone/contacts list is barely loading at all.

And sending a message? It just sits there now, waiting this long for a known bug is just inexcusable.

Two days ago I upgraded my 3G to OS 4.0 (MB046LL). Now it will sometimes not come on when it is "asleep" and I press the home button. If I push it a few times the phone re-boots. I haven't tried all of my apps yet, however today I had to travel about 70 miles round-trip and wanted to use my Tom-Tom GPS app but I was not allowed to select a destination before the app shut down and sent me back to the home screen. Is there a way to downgrade back to the previous OS?

Crap. I wish I had know all of this before I spent 4 hours and two attempts upgrading to OS4. I was getting Error (-9812) after my last attempt and my phone was completely unusable afterward. Couldn't even restore to backup. On a whim, I plugged it into my partner's Mac Book to see if it would snap out of it's unusable state. It finally recognized it as a new phone and it came to life. Now I'm restoring my wiped settings from my last back up on my own computer. I still have no idea if I'll be successful in that because the last back up was with the old OS.

Phone seems to be fine. It is noticeably slower. It stutters quite a bit when swiping, and SMS to almost 8 seconds to open.
