Aug 16, 2010 2:45 PM in response to MacOpHby MacOpH,Wow.... that was quick editing... do you have a computer doing that? -
Aug 16, 2010 2:55 PM in response to MacOpHby MacOpH,After all this time, after literally a process of elimination, I have stumbled upon the truth. Words fail me. -
Aug 16, 2010 3:13 PM in response to MacOpHby BenedictW,Hallo again,
I registered a few days ago, mainly to add my name to this list of people suffering with problems on their iPhone 3G after the iOS 4 update.
I would just like to also point out that in registering, I signed up to have email updates of replies to this thread - so I received MacOpH's earlier (unedited) post in my inbox, seconds before it was snipped.
I'm amazed at Apple's clear sensitivity to this subject, and yet continued obstinate silence. The censorship on here is absurd! Either man up and release a statement, or let people air their views on this forum.

Aug 16, 2010 3:30 PM in response to Xplorer77by sphonemus, adding my name to the list of aggravated 3G users. the phone is really unusable with this "update". it takes over 3 minutes just to get the iPod to play!
i've been using a mac since my PPC 6100, but between the recent "every smartphone has antenna problems" and this, i'm really disgusted with apple. -
Aug 16, 2010 3:37 PM in response to iWUBby Carol G,I tried to downgrade my iPhone 3G, carefully following the insructions on Lifehacker.com, but it won't finish, telling me that the firmware is not compatible with my phone.
So after trying so many temporary fixes, like deleting apps, hard resets, unchecking everything in Spotlight search, I finally RESTORED my phone as a NEW phone. What a difference! It was worth the time it took. Now iOS 4.0.2 seems to be working nicely on my "new" 3G. I know others have mentioned doing this, but I didn't want to spend the time on doing that and reinstalling apps, customizing contacts, reinstalling all my videos, etc. My phone works great now! I wish I had done this sooner. Now I have a "new iPhone 3G!"
Oh, yes. I also wrote Apple again, too. Please do write Apple. They need to know how MANY of us are affected. -
Aug 16, 2010 3:37 PM in response to Xplorer77by Cregg A Carter,Being a iphone owner/user i can say this. APPLE , you guys are a joke thanks to the new update. But don't worry , we will be sure and tell all our friends! -
Aug 16, 2010 5:04 PM in response to Xplorer77by Revteck,Hello all,
I've all ready had my turn at bit*hing but I do have a question.
If I restore as a new phone what happens to my things. Does it delete them in Itunes? Does it make a second profile and start with a new instance of Itunes? How do I move them back etc. I'm willing to give that option a chance but am wondering what to expect during the process. I'm trying to not have any surprises during the opperation. I'm frustrated enough at my brick of a phone.
Apple, I'm just plain disappointed in you! I expected better! You told me you were different and I was starting to believe. Now I'm saving for a Droid! -
Aug 16, 2010 5:10 PM in response to Xplorer77by pterfloth,It is now over 50 days since the release of OS4 and Apple has still not done 1 thing to help those of us with 3G phones crippled by this software abomination.
I will not forget this. I will speak with my wallet.
Every day that goes by makes me madder and madder.

Aug 16, 2010 5:49 PM in response to Howardswebby xmasboy4,I finally decided to call Apple the other week and officially submitted a report with a senior advisor. Pretty much all he did was have me e-mail him a diagnostic report on my 3G.
He told me he would forward this information to the engineering department. Don't quote me on this, but from the way he was talking it sounded like there would be an update for the 3G to resolve this issue in September. I told him all would be forgiven if he would just send me a 3GS, but he wasn't having it!!!
At first I thought this would be resolved much quicker. Like someone said a few replies before me: its been 50 days since we have had to suffer with an excuse for a phone, let alone an iPhone.
If Apple would come out of the woodworks and publicly address the issue and admit fault, I would have an enormous amount of respect for them. Like Steve Jobs said in the last conferance: "We are not perfect".
We want this problem fixed and we want an apology. -
Aug 16, 2010 5:54 PM in response to Xplorer77by traynor63,I can't believe everyone thinks there is a fix forthcoming from Apple. Seriously? They will sell way more iPhone 4's if they don't. If your 3G worked perfectly fine, most people (Not technophiles, who need the latest of everything.) would wait a couple of years to upgrade to a newer model. After all, the 3G was a pretty good product before the upgrade to iOS4.
So, in my cynical and jaded view of American consumerism and big business... Apple knows **** well, my and your 3G phone ***** now, they just don't care. -
Aug 16, 2010 6:09 PM in response to Revteckby Carol G,When I restored as a new phone, everything is still on iTunes. However, it was not on my phone, since it's now "new." When I plugged in my "new" phone, I set it up with all the preferences I like for syncing, podcasts, videos, photos, etc., etc. on iTunes, using the tabs at the top of iTunes when the phone is listed in the devices on the left.
Then, I selected the Apps I want to have on the phone again, and made folders, and selected "apply" so iTunes will remember what I did with the apps. My contacts (phone numbers) were still there, on my phone, because I told iTunes to sync my contacts. Before putting anything else on my phone, I put my custom ringtones back on the phone. Then, I put all the books, music and videos that I wanted. After that, I went to settings to customize the phone more to my liking.
I am very happy. iOS 4.0.2 is working GREAT on my iPhone 3G now, after 6 weeks of misery. It was so worth the time to set it up again as a new phone!
Before restoring as a new phone, I also sent a report to Apple that they told me the engineers would look at. I HOPE that Apple will fix this problem, but until they do, I am loving my iPhone 3G again! -

It most likely comes down to numbers. How many new iP4 owners are there since that phone came out vs. the number of current 3G owners? I would guess the number of first time-new phone purchasers mean more to Apple right now than the number that have 2 year old products.
People keep buying whatever they offer so why worry about loyalty to old owners?
It's not cost-effective and doesn't matter. -
Aug 16, 2010 8:00 PM in response to cliffby uofuguy,Add me to the list. This is ridiculous. I can't believe Apple treats it's customers this way... Oh wait, I guess I can. It's just about sales of new devices to them -
Aug 16, 2010 8:10 PM in response to Xplorer77by ranger1967,ohhh i feel your pain, seriously thinking of ditching the iphone, i need a phone that works, and doesnt hang up especially when texting ! i hit the letters but nothing happens for about 10 seconds, then all of a sudden, it responds, then "tries to catch up" , and when answering calls? yeah ok, i slide the bar and nothing happens, then hangs up on the person. i really think i will go back to my old favorite, the samsung, it did great and alot smaller, and never had a problem. i used to love my iphone, but now, i cant stand it, i need a phone that works, and now after this upgrade, it doesn't, soo apple, be ashamed, cause you really screwed up ! -
Aug 16, 2010 8:21 PM in response to iWUBby JayHarr,iWUB,
Can you let me know a link you used to downgrade from 4.0x to 3.13, iPhone?
I tried already and almost got to the end, then hit an error. Several at first but the last was the one saying the downgrade was unsupported. WOuld only allow me to go from 4.0 to 4.02.
Thanks,
Jay Harrison
