Q: Iphone 3G slow after update to IOS4

The upgrade to IOS4 took forever but eventualy was completed succesfully.
But the iphone is very slow with IOS4. It doesn't work as smooth as it used to be. Also new applications such as the iBook application are very slow, doesn't respond smooth on screentaps etc. Who has the same experience?
I'm thinking about going back to version 3.1.3 because IOS4 doesn't add anything to improve the user experience on the iPhone 3G.

I hope Apple will listen to their iphone users and will release an update soon for iOS4 which improves the performance on older iPhones.

I would like to add my name to this. I upgraded and am frustrated, felt like throwing my phone at the wall, jumping on it and even..upgrading to the iphone 4.. I guess thats apple's intentions..

I think its sad that the company will not even acknowledge and help its customers.. Another Golliath in the making..

Quite the contrary they are working to fix the problem in the next software update. This was reported weeks ago by an Apple spokes person. The update is expected to be announced and delivered between now and the middle of September. Sit tight, they know..

I'm very disappointed with Apple and I feel like I was robbed. I didn't jail break the phone, I follow the rules and buy my music legally from iTunes, and I keep the phone's firmware up to date by taking the upgrades as they come. And now I upgrade my phone and its less functional than when I originally purchased the phone. To make it worse, Apple doesn't seem to be addressing the problem and doesn't provide a way to down grade the phone back to a working firmware. I'm so tempted to just jailbreak the phone.

This is a complete joke. My iphone is completely unusable, and none of the current "solutions" fix this. To me this is bigger than "antennagate". One very unhappy customer.

OK same problem with my 3G. Question: what then is the solution? Who do we call or email at Apple and explain this slip up?

I downloaded OS 4.0.2 as a new phone. It is a bit faster. Let's see for how long. I can't go buy a new phone. So am trying everything. I save my contacts in the address book (pc). I download my pics in the computer. Then applied only some of the apps from my iTunes library. Apple this is very disappointing ..

Obviously there are some monumental environmental consequences to having 4 million phones becoming inoperable (at least to the degree that they were before) overnight.

This is just a suggestion, mind.

A programme is established in which we can request a pre-paid envelope. Using this, we canned donate our newly obsolete phones to the programme. Using the latest recycling technology, the phones are then ground down and recycled into bumper cases.

No land fill for our broken phones, no more squandered resources creating millions of bumper cases.

Sure, its a long-shot, I'm not even sure if the technology is there yet, but if there is a chance…..

Add me to the list of 3G owners with a sluggish phone
I thought maybe it was because I installed the developer beta versions and they broke something but I just read that it happens also to people that never installed a beta
I prefer less new functionalities but a working phone. When the betas were slow I thought that maybe they had debugging on and they were not optimized in the built but it happens also with the final version. They must have noticed it as they tested iOS on the 3G (they decided to remove certain functionalities so they tested them) so I don't understand why they did distributed such an slow system.
Or maybe it does not happen to every 3G user and it depends on how we installed the different versions?

Based on your posts before they were "made viewable for public consumption" I seriously doubt that you are at a loss for words

What did your process of elimination lead you to? Bots? People? Both are very effective...

This thread is so long I am not sure if anyone has posted this or not:

Does iOS 4.1 fix slow iPhone 3G units? Yes.
    http://thenextweb.com/apple/2010/07/27/does-ios4-1-fix-slow-iphone3g-units-yes/

I don't know if I belive it or not but I sure hope it does because my 3G is crap with the upgrade to iOS 4.

Most of us like tech and read tech blogs, how about every time there is news written about Apple, be it a new product or new software we post something like:

VERY NICE, NOW HOW ABOUT RESOLVING MY LAGGY 3G FIRST

Anyone think it would help expedite things?

just did this last night. I'm totally not a computer person and I followed the instructions to a T and now have 3.1.3 working well with my iPhone 3G. Good luck.

    Latest theory:

the phone is working fine. What has actually happened, is, that when the 3G received the ios4 upgrade, its DNA was altered forever.

It now kicks out +quantum particles+ creating what we now believe is a time distortion field!

No wonder Apple wants to keep a lid on this!

Anyone holding the phone can literally 'bend' the fabric of time so that their perception of the phone in use is unbearably slow. To outside observers, the users' movements will appear superhumanly fast, erratic and possibly even violent towards the phone.
