Aug 17, 2010 6:45 AM in response to Xplorer77by MandarineMtl,sorry, here's the link:

Aug 17, 2010 6:50 AM in response to MandarineMtlby help-slip-franklin,MandarineMtl, did you lose all your data when you downgraded? I've thought about doing so but read that I would lose all my data.

Aug 17, 2010 6:51 AM in response to MacOpHby cliff,Wow. That's the best theory I've heard yet!MacOpH wrote:
Latest theory:
the phone is working fine. What has actually happened, is, that when the 3G received the ios4 upgrade, its DNA was altered forever.
It now kicks out +quantum particles+ creating what we now believe is a time distortion field!
No wonder Apple wants to keep a lid on this!
Anyone holding the phone can literally 'bend' the fabric of time so that their perception of the phone in use is unbearably slow. To outside observers, the users' movements will appear superhumanly fast, erratic and possibly even violent towards the phone. -
Aug 17, 2010 6:54 AM in response to Xplorer77by justin85,I've been a loyal Apple customer for 12 years and have had next to nothing bad to say about them until recently. The little things have been piling up faster and faster, and my experience with this upgrade has now really changed the way I look at them. There's no excuse for them releasing this OS like this, and no reason why they can't address the problems. I'm finally downgrading today after putting up with a basically unusable phone for the past month. Thanks for the non-existent customer support. -
Aug 17, 2010 8:53 AM in response to justin85by RAC93,Try this "band-aid" as a temp fix (until Apple does the right thing and fixes it properly.) It has made my iPhone 3G running iOS 4.0.2 usable again:
1. Go to Settings | General | Home Button | Spotlight Search and un-check everything.
2. Reboot your iPhone 3G normally.
You lose the "Spotlight Search" for now (I don't use it anyway) but the phone speeds up noticably.
On a side note, I too have noticed that my AT&T 3G service is now running faster on my iPhone 3G than a few (6 Mbps+) WiFi networks... Yet another thing that Apple has screwed up.
Has Apple been taken over by Disney? A bunch of things seem to have been "Mickey Moused" lately...
---ATTENTION---
If your iPhone 3G is having problems with iOS 4, post something on here. As we've heard, Steve Jobs like "hard data".
If you don't post, then he assumes "you don't have a problem." Be counted!

Aug 17, 2010 9:42 AM in response to Xplorer77by Christine1127,I just don't understand why Apple is still allowing 3Gs to be upgraded to IOS4. No warnings...nothing. Totally unethical. -
Aug 17, 2010 9:53 AM in response to Xplorer77by Krafix,Same here. I did try everything that you can find: spotlight, deactivate this and that, reboot... Gets better for a few hours, that's it. Then slow as molasses again. The camera is almost unusable. And all the other tricks like the 'recboot' thing are well, "tricks", and I hope Apple comes out with THE right solution soon because I just don't want to change to the new model yet. Unless they finally announce an iTunes way to downgrade, that would be fine to me too. -
Aug 17, 2010 10:05 AM in response to Xplorer77by Javier Cervantes,im really really upset...
I just don't understand why the ***** would apple do this!

Aug 17, 2010 10:10 AM in response to Xplorer77by jeniphone3G,My iphone is ridiculously slow after the upgrade to IOS4. Texting, using the phone, using the camera and loading any safari pages take so long that I have been just giving up lately.
I bought my iphone only a year and a half ago and paid $400 for it. I don’t think I should have to upgrade to a new phone to expect proper performance and I expect a phone I pay $400 for to last a few years.
I own an iphone, Mac Book pro and several ipods. I’ve been such a huge Apple advocate, however, based on how Apple treats users of older phone versions, I would no longer recommend the iphone to people and would question how Apple treats their customers.
Apple needs to fix this problem ASAP or they’ve lost a customer.

Aug 17, 2010 10:26 AM in response to Xplorer77by JoshSommers,Add me to the list. I have patiently waited for any sign that these problems would be addressed, but clearly, now more than ever, Apple does not care about their customers. All they care about is forcing us to upgrade to the 4. That is all this OS upgrade is.
Apple has become the evil empire that was portrayed in their famous 1984 commercial. Way to go Apple.

Aug 17, 2010 10:37 AM in response to Xplorer77by enospork,I too am having similar slowness problems although the 4.0.2 release seems to have helped. Whereas before it was slow everytime I accessed an app, searched the internet, etc... now it is more intermittent but it freezes for a longer period (before 5 - 10 seconds everytime I accessed an app now 30 - 60 seconds but much less frequent).
Just want to add myself as another disgruntled and frustrated customer. I was thinking of purchasing a new iphone and giving this one to my wife but she doesn't want it in it's current state.
What's really frustrating is that I have yet to see anything from Apple admitting to a problem. What gives??? -
Aug 17, 2010 10:40 AM in response to Xplorer77by P-S-C,Today I called Apple support to ask what they think my friends and I should do to make our phones work properly again, after this upgrade. I was hoping at least that they could give advice on disabling services or deleting programs to make the phone gain some speed again.
The woman at support hadn't heard of any problems.
Are you kidding? -

Ah, I can see it now, John 'Microsoft' Hodgman 'dragged-up' in blonde wig, running vest and shorts… running through the centre of the audience…. swirling a sledge hammer around and around and flinging it through the big-screen Keynote presentation where SJ is mid spiel announcing the release of iOS4.1.
Think Same. -
Aug 17, 2010 12:14 PM in response to P-S-Cby NIETOS,I updated my phone to OS4.0.2. It is a bit faster, however, I downloaded first and then restored it as a new phone. I saved my contact on my pc address book and was able to transfer. The apps, photos, and music can be transfered with ITunes, except you will loose your text messages. You could buy a software or use this website. http://www.iphone-sms.com/
Good luck to all of US. I WILL WAIT TO SEE HOW HONORABLE THE APPLE COMPANY IS.
